WHAT A YEAR!
We feel blessed and lucky to be launching our second season of Newvelle on Kickstarter. Newvelle Records was created in Paris in 2014 when pianist Elan Mehler had an impromptu lunch with business-executive Jean-Christophe Morisseau after a piano lesson. Since that very eventful meal, we've been fortunate to go in to the studio with some of the best musicians in the world. We’ve collaborated with some of the finest artists on the globe and we've had amazing interactions with music lovers, vinyl enthusiasts, journalists, radio DJ's, music agents, photographers, directors, graphic artists, art enthusiasts, videographers, podcasters, poets, and writers.
We're a new type of label
dedicated to quality and where musicians' rights are protected. Each year we record and release 6 records, exclusively on vinyl and with curated artwork and literature. In our second season we're not only featuring a roster of incredible artists, but best-selling author Douglas Kennedy is writing original content and we're presenting photography from the astonishing French collective Tendance Floue.
We are very proud to present our second series of records including:
- John Patitucci Trio Featuring Yotam Silberstein and Rogerio Boccato
- Kevin Hays and Lionel Loueke Duo
- Jon Cowherd Quartet featuring Steve Cardenas, Tony Sher and Brian Blade
- Chris Tordini Trio featuring Becca Stevens and Greg Ruggerio
- Aruán Ortiz solo piano revisiting the music of the great Cuban classical composer Ignacio Cervantes
- Rufus Reid Trio with Steve Allee and Duduka Da Fonseca and featuring the Sirius String Quartet
These vinyl records will only be available to members of Newvelle. Members receive one record sent to their door every two months.
We set out to build a series of records, of all new music, that cut no corners sonically or artistically. That was built on a model that treated musicians right and that used the full available canvas of vinyl to make something unique and beautiful. And with your help and the incredible, generous artistic contributions of photographer Bernard Plossu and poet Tracy K. Smith we've produced our first series of vinyls that we are very, very proud of.
By pre-ordering these records and supporting this model, you are creating a space where music can be recorded at this level. Musicians grant us a window of a few years when the music is available only at Newvelle and only on vinyl. Our model is based on building an exclusive community interested in hearing this music in the best possible presentation.
Check out this little teaser of the JP3 recording the great Dominguinhos' compostion "Nilopolitano." Our first release of 2017!
If you're looking for the perfect holiday gift for the music enthusiast, we've got you covered. Box sets of the first season will ship out on December 6th from our plant. If you want to give a subscription to the second season as a gift we'll send out this beautiful card taken by Tendance Floue artist Olivier Culmann. Leave this under the tree and we'll ship a new record to them every two months, all year long...
Here's some of what people are saying about us...
"The sound is beautifully crisp, and the packaging — with work by the French photographer Bernard Plossu and the American poet Tracy K. Smith — is elegant and spare."
--Nate Chinen, The New York Times
"If you’re a Newvelle Records subscriber, you know what to expect from each new release. If you’re not, get out that checkbook and sign up. This music is too urgent to be missed."
--Guy Lemcoe, The Audio Beat
"Listeners will feel and experience the breath on the tenor reed, the woody timbre of the bass, and the snap of the drum stick on the snare. You are there with a front and center seat."
--Jeff Krow, Audiophile Audition
"With this all-star band in tow, Preminger does what he does best—he tells a compelling story without frills, relying on raw talent and he does it better than he has ever done before."
--Karl Ackermann, All About Jazz
"This is surely among the best recorded albums I have heard, but not in a clinical way. Turn it up, close your eyes, and the band is in the room, such is the dynamic range, accuracy and richness of the sound."
--John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald

This year, the acclaimed novelist Douglas Kennedy is writing original work reflecting on the 2017 series and building a text that ties the entire series into one piece. Mr. Kennedy is the author of twelve novels, including the international bestsellers Leaving the World and The Moment. His work has been translated into 22 languages, and in 2007 he received the French decoration of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
We are enormously excited to be collaborating with Tendance Floue for the 2017 season of Newvelle Records. Tendance Floue is a Paris based collective of fourteen photographers formed in 1991. Forever exploring the world against the grain of a westernized image, revealing the hidden side of exposed issues, capturing unique moments. Beyond their individual approaches, the fourteen photographers, in a collective spirit, have launched into a photographic adventure of a different order, all-encompassing and akin to performance.
