Last summer, the team behind African Time released a trailer for a family comedy about growing up as a first generation African immigrant. In its first week online, the trailer received over 3 million Facebook views and 100 thousand YouTube views.
Sites such as Essence, OkayAfrica and Buzzfeed wrote about the show, and our Kickstarter reached its target, allowing us to cover our production expenses. A few distributors even reached out to us.
Buzzfeed: "This New Show About First Generation Nigerians Is So On Point"
Essence: "Hilarious New Series Basically Sums Up the Immigrant Experience"
OkayAfrica: "A Hilarious New Sitcom About The Immigrant Experience In America"
With all the press and views (6 million and counting on Facebook, 300 thousand and counting on YouTube), we thought it would be easy to find a producer. We were wrong. Every producer passed on the show -- it was too specific, too niche, too African.
The people who loved the trailer still ask, "what happened," so we took your feedback and changed the title, then pooled our resources together and shot this first episode.
Now, we need your help to make more episodes. This project is important to us and we want to show the world there is an audience for this story!
