The goal of Porch Lights is to share beautiful music, so let's start things off right. You can listen to three songs from the album, and even download one of our favorites, for free:

Wait...another gift: if you can get there, you're all invited to the free outdoor album release concert on Sept. 6, overlooking the Utah Valley (details to come in an Update).
Porch Lights has been in the making for a long time, with a colorful history of Sunday night folk-jams, late-night home recording sessions, and extensive songwriting that finally all came together as a professional studio album.
I've taken my instruments with me to a number of wild places to make the album happen... Moab, random surfing trips to California, all over Costa Rica, once I even stuffed a mandolin in my suitcase and snuck it on a family cruise.
Porch Lights is a true labor of love. Emily and I want the music to come from real places, genuine feelings, and sincere experiences. I can't tell you how many late nights and long days we have put into it... but it is totally worth it.
All recording and mastering of the 13-track album (and the accompanying acoustic album) is complete.
"Caverns" was recorded locally at Studio Studio Dada in Provo, UT. Big shoutout to Stephen Cope for doing some incredible work with us.
I've made a lot of sacrifices to fund the album (someone out there is riding a motorcycle I sold to pay for it, and BYU - sorry for that late tuition payment), and it truly has become something magical... just listen to it. It has been incredible to watch people come together and share the same genuine excitement in it, as is in me.
The album is recorded, the tracks are mastered, and the only step left is to fund the final distribution (cd printing, online distribution, etc.) and have some amazing shows. We want you to be a part of it. At the end of the day, we just want you to be able to hear a song on the album and see your own feelings reflected back in a way you could never explain in words.
Its never been about making money... its about making the kind of music that we can immerse ourselves in. We're running on pretty thin margins, but it's the right thing to do. Honestly, if a reward is a little pricey for you, just send us a message and we'll make it work, okay?

Risks and challenges
The album, Caverns, is already recorded, mixed, and mastered. The album artwork has been validated in a successful test-print. Shipping weights and packaging has already been researched and identified... basically we've worked out all the details.
In order for Kickstarter rewards to arrive before the official album release (9/6/14) we will place the CD/Jacket print order before the Kickstarter funds are received. This requires quick backer response to the final survey.
In order to meet backer expectations, and fulfill our expressed commitments, we even solicited the help and oversight of someone with the experience of fulfilling a Kickstarter campaign (Brennan Crellin, from PhoneSoap, Luma, and SplatterTec projects).
We're really stoked to have Brennan overseeing the Kickstarter campaign, he's my brother and really deserves all of the appreciation in the world. There are some challenges out there, but we think we've got it all covered. If our challenges come from shipping many albums and shirts...that's a challenge we won't mind dealing with.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
