i want to create a place in richmond where we can skate without the worries of upsetting business or home owners. i have been skating in and around richmond for 25 years, and we have never had a skatepark in city limits. any ramps that have been built have been quickly forced down by neighborhoods or city ordinances. i have taken all the correct steps to prevent this for the Lost Bowl.
i have started the bowl, which has been built so far all by skaters. it is an eight foot deep kidney.i have obtained proper permits and am doing everything the city asks. we dug, we formed dirt, we made wood forms, we tied rebar, we shot concrete and now we have a complete "shell" of the pool. to complete it we still need coping, tile, plaster and decks.
upon completion of the pool we will be building a small skatepark type area filled with artisticly done concrete, much of it with multiple uses. an example is the "volcano" firepit we have already built, that when finished will also be skatable.
the Lost Bowl will welcome skaters from all over!
the money we are asking for is for materials. rebar, coping, concrete, plaste, tile, wood, bricks, etc. no labor will be paid. all labor is done by skaters for the love of skating.
along the way i have been and will continue to document the whole process in a blog. i hope this blog makes others realize that this is an obtainable goal and that they can build with concrete also.
the $5,000 we are trying to raise will finish the bowl and immediate decks. we will need alot more to complete the whole skatepark yard.
