STILL INTERESTED IN DIVORCE! THE GAME? YOU CAN PRE-ORDER FROM US FROM OUR STORE
Divorce! The Game is a light-hearted, viciously competitive two-player card game about dividing your assets--no matter what the cost. It takes all the fun of getting divorced and turns it into an easy-to-play 20-minute game. The deck represents your marital assets, and players take turns drawing two cards, keeping one for themselves and giving the other to their “ex.” This simple mechanic mimics a zanier version of divorce mediation and leads to some tense decisions. Do you take an item that you want? -- or do you prevent your ex from getting something they cherish? As you fight for your house and your kids, you'll have to play dirty: use lawyers to repossess items, hide assets offshore, plant incriminating evidence on your opponent, or buy bribes to get the edge.
Divorce! The Game was designed to be accessible even for novice game players. With its simple take-one-give-one mechanic, it's incredibly easy to get into the game. However, it also has a surprising amount of depth. The value of any card changes depending on when it arrives and what it comes up against. Every shuffle brings on an entirely new game. Expert players will begin making strategies based on the flow of cards and the decisions their opponents make. You're making game-changing decisions every turn, and players will often end a game saying "I should've done that instead!" that's why we like to call the game a "regret simulator." With its broad appeal, I'm hoping friends and lovers of all skill levels will be able to have a great time getting divorced.

Also, a stack of play money will make you feel fabulously wealthy. Finally, there's one standard 6-sided dice for use when attempting to repossess items from other players.

Also, all non-digital backers of the game will also receive two additional asset cards, exclusive to Kickstarter. For more info, click here.
Finally, every non-digital backer will get free access to the game's first planned expansion pack, expected summer 2015. Currently entitled The Third Child, the first expansion introduces an unexpected third child. What will you do in order to fight for him--and his insurance money?!
At the beginning of your turn, draw two cards. Keep one and give the other card to your opponent. The deck represents your assets and include all your valuable possessions like your bed or wedding ring, each with a unique value. However, some cards grant special powers, like Alimony, Mistrial, Tax Fraud, and more! Some of these cards can really screw someone over!
And of course, this wouldn't be a game about divorce if lawyers weren't involved. Inside the deck, you'll find a number of lawyers you can hire. Lawyers let you to steal items, move them offshore, or even burn them down. Did your opponent just win the house? Go ahead! Burn it down!
Lawyers are incredibly useful, and will help you win Legal Battles to win "Big Items," like the house above. And just like in real life, they cost quite a lot of money to use. In order to fund the cost of winning this divorce, you'll have to resort to a number of money-making tactics. For example, you can have an affair with a Sugar Daddy. You can even sell off your belongings to the Pawn Shop in order to fund your legal proceedings.
Perhaps the most valuable assets you'll fight for, however, are the children. Each child is dealt to the parent with the highest custody rating at the end of game. Some items will help you earn favor with your kids...and some will definitely hurt. In order to really win over the kids, you'll want to buy bribes. Remember, your kids are worth a lot... in child support, at least!

Divorce! The Game was designed by me, Andrew Yoon. Some of you may remember me from my days in the video game industry, as the former Editor in Chief of Shacknews, East Coast Editor of Joystiq, and Lead Editor of PlayStation Fanboy.
I left video game editorial with the hopes of making games. In recent years, I've become a tabletop enthusiast, and found that I absolutely loved designing games. Ever since leaving my job, I've been prototyping a ton of games, some which have worked, some which haven't. However, even in its earliest days, Divorce! The Game has proven to be special. There have been tons of laughs over the countless nights playtesting, tweaking, and revising the game. I'm so eager to get this first game in front of an audience.
I'm not working on this alone, though. Anne Baltazar is our artist, drawing all the unique illustrations for the 50+ cards featured in the game. Sunny Nguyen is our graphic designer, making the cards look as snazzy as they do. Finally, David Beck is (in addition to my best friend and roommate) the Producer on the game, coordinating all the logistics that go into making the product real.
It is very, very expensive to make games. Game manufacturers won't bother making a game unless there are at least a few hundred copies to an order. So, I needed a platform where I could raise the funds necessary to make my game a reality.
The funds raised will go towards building the highest quality version of the game possible. Should we raise more than our minimum, we'll keep on adding to every copy of the game through stretch goals. In addition, funds will go towards actually shipping the game, a surprisingly costly thing to do. Finally, I have to pay the hardworking artists working on the game. Unfortunately, I couldn't trick them into working countless hours for zero compensation. Drats.
Risks and challenges
This is the very first game I have ever made, and it is the very first Kickstarter project I've created. As such, there may be unexpected bumps in the production process. However, a lot of research and consultation was done to ensure fulfillment will go as smoothly as possible. Manufacturers have already been contacted, with production ready to go once the campaign ends.
While some of the art is completed, we do have to finish the remaining art in the game. Given that each card in the game features unique art, this is a time-consuming process. As such, we're aiming for a January release of the game. Rest assured, we promise to offer everyone regular updates with a look at the art and details on strategies between the campaign's end and game's final release.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
