About this project
Six months ago we started a project called CookieCutz, the idea was to develop unique and exceptional designs of our own and in addition, royalty free designs and convert them to cookie cutters to help many passionate people with their cooking, art, craft, or unique projects. CookieCutz is not just any other typical cookie cutter business. With over 15 years in design and development, we exactly know how to design a printable 3D model that is not only beautiful in shape, but also is designed to perform perfectly. Keeping unique wall thicknesses across the design is really a challenging task when the design is complicated. Over past 6 months we designed and developed over 200 cookie cutter models in various categories, such as foods, fruits, birthday themes, letters and numbers, holidays, nature, maternity and new born, animals, cake design shapes, music, sports, weddings, and more.
With both of us being fully employed, baby sitting, and studying to get our master degree, we believe that we have done a pretty good job designing and developing over 200 models, and manufacturing ( 3D printing ) from our garage in a very short time. Unfortunately, this is not enough. In order for us to accomplish what we started and turn CookieCutz to a reasonable marketplace of cutters where thousands of shapes and designs can be found , we need to design and develop way more than what we currently have. This will help people to come to CookieCutz and find exactly what they are looking for ensuring a reliable design and one low affordable price. There are many designs from many different categories that are still missing simply because we do not have the enough resource and energy to complete them. If we continue like this it will take us 3 to 5 years to increase our designs to 1000+ products. That is why we are asking for your help. With your help and support we can add enough resource and energy to increase our database of designs to pass 1000 unique models in the next 6 months ! To do that we need to hire experienced designers to join our team and move the business from garage to an office location. We came a long way to be where we currently are and we believe that we can make a difference. The process starts from sketching ideas, to developing the 3D models an finally printing the designs.
Meet myself, Arbi and my wife, Elena – I graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from university of Isfahan / Iran – I moved to USA in 2004 and got my second degree in structural engineering from University of California Los Angeles – Ever since I graduated in 2009 I worked in several aerospace related companies as a product and tool designer – During my career I have designed various aerospace parts and the tooling to cast/mold the parts. I was involved from A to Z to brain storm, design, develop, and manufacture parts. Currently I am working in an Aerospace related company as a senior mechanical engineer and in the meantime I am finishing up my online master degree in Engineering Management at Penn State University. My Wife ,Elena graduated in 2009 from University of California UCLA with a biology major. She is currently finishing up her online master degree in Regulatory Affairs – Drugs and Regulations at NorthEastern University of Boston. She is also working full time as a Quality Assurance and Compliance Analyst in a health care company. Just like myself, she moved to the United States in 2004 and we met in Community College, and ever since we were good friends, helping each other with school, projects, work, and so on. I saw her passion with design, drafting and modeling and I thought her how she can be the best, and she was always a great learner ! We got married in 2010 right after graduation and we have a lovely 2 years old daughter, and her name is Ellenie.
We don’t just offer cookie cutters! We offer cookie cutters with awesome textures and designs which can be used for fondants and for various other fun purposes. It is also good to know that we are using PLA plastic for cookie cutter material which is generally recognized as Safe when used in contact with food.
Our environment is a combination of many elements, both living and non-living that make up our surroundings. Some include natural elements and some are manufactured. Nowadays is very important for all of us to understand what harms the environment and what helps toward greener environment – We do care about our surroundings and therefore, we did choose PLA to print our cutters! PLA is a bio-degradable type of plastic that is manufactured out of plant-based resources such as corn starch or sugar cane. This is why it is called ‘the green plastic’. With successful funding, this project will add total of 1000 cookie cutter designs from various categories to CookieCutz.com With successful funding, we will be using the fund to hire designers to increase the designs rapidly to reach the goal of 1000 designs. In additional we will purchase additional 3D printers to speed up the process of 3D printing to deliver the rewards to our backers on time! In addition to these costs, we have also budgeted for the included shipping cost for sending out rewards to anywhere in the United States included in your rewards. For International delivery, there is a small shipping fees involved.
Even though the delivery of the products are estimated starting December of 2015 thru May of 2016 , we are going to put all the effort and energy to start the delivery of the products by November of 2015 ( right after successful funding of the project ), If backers choose to select cutters from existing designs, the delivery of the cutters will happen sooner than expected.

Risks and challenges
There are always risks and challenges. Usually with product designs that involve injection molding, there are higher rate of risks due to costly manufacturing process. Thank God to the new technology of 3D printing which enables us to produce high quality plastic parts.
The most challenging part of this project is to reach 1000 product in less than 6 months. However, with a successful funding of this project we can hire new designers to join our team to make this happen.
