Isles of Terror can be experienced as a competitive or a cooperative game by 1-5 players. Each game is based on an adventure with an overarching storyline that can either be played separately or as part of a linked campaign.
You will need to explore different isles and overcome their dangers in the form of minions, terrors, seasonal events, and unforeseen situations. Carefully manage your resources as you advance deeper into the jungles through fighting or negotiating with its inhabitants in order to gain control of the areas, to raise camps, and to strengthen your position.
In the end, earning victory points is essential to win the game and they can be earned in many different ways. E.g. by following the given scenario objectives, focusing on progress tasks and completing missions. Now it is up to you to evolve a strategy and bravely lead your expedition into the unknown regions of the Isles of Terror.
Each game is unique – Seasonal effects, an exploration deck, and randomly set up area tiles shape a new experience with different and unpredictable explorations in each game.
Against each other, together or on your own – Whether you prefer competitive, cooperative or solo games, Isles of Terror features all of that without losing any of its mechanics or atmosphere!
Become a part of the story – Delve into a new story with each adventure or follow the overarching plot while playing a campaign. Backgrounds, epilogues and the adventure design itself will help you feel like you are part of the story.
Stay in the game – There is no player elimination and a growing threat system will help keep the leading players within striking range so that no player ever feels like they do not stand a chance of winning anymore.
Choose your strategy –Go after the adventure objectives, complete missions, focus on your progress tasks or even raid other players to earn victory points. There are plenty of options to win a game.
Self-restricting action system – Plan ahead and choose your actions wisely as each decision restricts the usage of your other actions during a round.
Endless possibilities – Easily create your own adventures and campaigns by customizing the isles’ layout, minions, bosses, progress tasks or adventure objectives.
If you choose the EXPLORER reward you will get the base game of Isles of Terror plus all unlocked stretch goals.
If you choose the CONQUEROR reward you will receive the base game of Isles of Terror plus the miniature pack add-on with 92 plastic miniatures. These can be used to exchange all wooden components in the base game. In addition, you will also receive all unlocked stretch goals.
When exceeding our funding goal, we would really like to use any additional money to improve the game and its components in order to make it more special. In addition, we hope that we can add a few awesome adventure and faction expansions that we have already prepared for but that will need further additional funding.
The list below shows the next possible stretch goals. A stretch goal will be unlocked once its necessary funding amount is reached. You will notice that we have grouped the stretch goals into different sections, creating a series of “quests” that can be fulfilled. Once all stretch goals in a section are unlocked, the free bonus is unlocked as well and acts as a reward for fulfilling all the stretch goals in a “quest”.
In addition to the core game you can make optional purchases in the form of add-ons. Add-ons cannot be selected directly through Kickstarter. You will need to manage your pledge and increase your pledge amount by the value of the add-ons you want to add.
Basically, you pay for what you want as add-ons right now here on Kickstarter. Later on, you will be able to choose your add-ons in the pledge manager with your prepaid money acting as a reserve for any add-ons you want to add
Isles of Terror can be played competitively, cooperatively or solo. Players will have the choice of different adventures that can be played as single scenarios or a full campaign.
Each player leads their own expedition based on one of the four factions. Each faction is distinguished by specific strategy cards that can be played to influence game situations and slightly different player board layouts.
Game rounds are played as seasons, in which each player acts on a turnaround basis performing a total of three actions. At the beginning of each season a new event card will be drawn that affects all players.
Placing action tokens allows a player to choose one of the actions linked to it. This system restricts or even forbids the usage of specific actions based on how the action tokens are placed and which actions are performed.
Land actions allow you to bring new troops to the isle and receive all resources that have been gathered on your ship.
Using a move action lets you explore new areas or move into conflict with other players by spending rations to move your characters.
Add new troops to your controlled areas by performing a recruit action and spending gold on new soldiers and captains.
Once you control some areas you can use a produce action to generate resources.
If you are lacking any resources you can request new ones with a support action.
While exploring the isle you will be confronted with its inhabitants. You may choose to negotiate with them or fight them and conquer the area in order to establish a camp. Each exploration is also accompanied by an exploration card that creates a unique situation.
The types of minions and bosses you could face will change with each adventure and you will also have the chance to adjust them as you like to create your own stories.
Sometimes you might even discover one of the special places, each with unique beneficial effects, or you might explore a river that quickens your movements.
The winner of a competitive game is usually the player with the most victory points. These can be earned by completing adventure goals, defeating captains and bosses and fulfilling missions.
Victory points can also be earned by focusing on three progress tasks that change with each adventure. Each time you meet the criteria of one of the tasks your progress token will advance on its scale. Hitting the colored areas marked with the totem symbols will then earn you a victory point.
When playing cooperatively or solo, your victory conditions will differ and you have to work for a common goal in order to succeed in an adventure.
We have tried our best to record a set of 5 videos in which we explain the setup, basic rules for competitive and co-op/solo play as well as a competitive and a cooperative playthrough.
We recommend viewing the setup and rules videos first.

Having Kickstarter exclusives like the “Tales from the Isles of Terror” adventure book is a bit tricky because there is always a minimum quantity that needs to be ordered and we cannot foretell how many backers will actually purchase it. So, this could easily lead to an overproduction for those items.
Therefore, we would like to allow ourselves the option to sell any excess Kickstarter exclusive items at shows and events we attend personally. This gives us the chance to put the overproduced Kickstarter exclusives to a good use and not waste them.
Kickstarter was meant to be a platform on which small companies can present their ideas and reach out to people that believe in their projects and are willing to support them. Only with the help of those backers could these projects be realized when they would not be financially possible otherwise.
We are here on Kickstarter to follow exactly this philosophy. We are a two-man company and we spend our free time developing games that we would like to become a reality. Financing all the artworks and designs upfront is already taking our entire budget, so when it comes to the final production we need the support of interested backers. That is exactly why we are on Kickstarter. We do not have any publisher behind us and without your support on Kickstarter we simply could not produce our games.
Isles of Terror has been developed over the course of the last several years and is our biggest project so far. We really hope that you will find it interesting enough to give it a chance and support us on our journey to produce this game!
Thanks so much!!! Your support means a lot to us!
When the campaign is over and Isles of Terror has successfully been funded, we will start arranging a pledge manager. Once preparations are done we will send out a link to each backer that will take them to their personal pledge manager account.
The pledge manager will allow you to manage your pledge by adding additional expansions or base games and pay for the shipping costs.
We will be using a fulfillment center to ship out the pledges. This way we can guarantee custom-free shipping to the US, Canada, Australia, and Europe.
We try to keep shipping costs as low as possible and at the moment we have the following approximate shipping estimates:
US ~ €15 / $18
Canada ~ €15 / $18
Australia ~ €18 / $22
Europe ~ €12 / $15
Rest of the World ~ €25 / $30
The final shipping costs will be calculated based on your add-ons, etc., when you have finalized your pledge through the pledge manager after the campaign is over.
If you want to find out who we are and what we do, we suggest taking a closer look at our website:
There you will find all the information about us and all of our games.
Risks and challenges
This is our third Kickstarter project and so far we have been doing quite well. Our production timelines are always accurate and backers got their pledges on time or even early. So, we think that we know about all kinds of risk that we could possibly deal with and are well prepared for exceptions.
Of course, we cannot influence anything that is out of our hands, but as I said, we are always prepared for possible disasters and think that we will be able to pull this off nice and smoothly for everyone.
Communication is taken seriously, so even if problems occur, we will let you know about them ASAP and tell you about our plans to solve them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
