I originally hoped to fund professional packaging , as well as professional sound, for the project, but it didn't work out. So, I am now looking to fund the important part, the sound. Packaging is relatively unimportant in this day and age of iPods and digital downloads, anyway, I suppose. (I'm just old enough that it still seems cool to me, though.)
So, if you haven't already, read on through the description below to get an idea of what it's all about...
Okay...yeah I'm 50 years old and I am just now going into the studio. After 30 years of making muddy-sounding recordings on home cassette recorders, and overdubbing by playing recorded tracks through one guitar amplifier while I played along through another, I have decided that I really need to produce some songs that are listenable rather than just a demo of an idea. (Wow...run-on sentences R us!)
Anyway, I have these thirteen songs that link together nicely to produce what we used to call a "concept album". Even though the current trend is to buy digital singles on the internet, much the way that kids bought 45s in the 1950s, I agonized over the order these songs come in, and how each plays off of the other. My goal is to take you on a musical journey through the course of 13 songs, and arrive at a certain destination.
I wrote these songs over the span of thirty years; from 1982 until a couple of months ago. And, while they don't all follow the standard blues chord progressions, I consider this a blues album. The songs are about heartache, misery and pain, self-medicating to cope with that pain, riding motorcycles to feel free and ultimately, getting over it all and learning to live with the life you are given. These are not all of the songs I want to record, I have more...many more. But these tell the story I want to tell, right now.
So, if you have ever wanted to be a record executive...if you want to green-light a project and take some pride in the fact that you were instrumental in letting an artist express his vision...and if you want a CD full of songs which will make you tap your feet (and possibly sing along)...
Pledge early and pledge often!
All of the money pledged will go into the project. You will be buying studio time, reproduction services and packaging. Travel, guitar strings and such are on me.
If we go significantly over the goal, then you will get a nicer package for the product. I will keep you informed of progress, post the occasional video of the process and try to make you as much a part of the production as possible.
Thank you, so much, for reading all of this. And thank you for your support!
