Maestro is a documentary feature that shows a side of classical music most of the world has never seen. It captures the pressures and beauty of self-expression, the rush of performance, and above all, the power of a universal language. Maestro is an intimate, unprecedented glimpse into the life of a renowned conductor and a vibrant, contemporary portrait of the world of classical music. Maestro features performances and interviews with some of the biggest names in classical music. Our cast includes Maestro Paavo Jarvi, Joshua Bell, Lang Lang, Hilary Hahn, and Pekka Kuusisto. The film features interviews and performances with die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Orchestre de Paris, Parnu Festival Orchestra, and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. It also showcases never seen before photography of Steve J. Sherman. Steve has been the in-house photographer for Carnegie Hall for three decades and one of the most sought after music and performing arts photographers in New York. The compelling Maestro score is composed by Michael Csanyi-Wills.
This film was created for one purpose: to connect the music we call classical with a broader audience. The funds raised through this campaign will be allocated directly towards the licensing/purchasing of music that is integral to the story. Funding also will be devoted to a final surround mix and color correction. With your help, Maestro can meet its goal of premiering in Philadelphia on January 10th, 2015.
Risks and challenges
Making an independent film is always riddled with obstacles. Maestro is no exception. Filming began in 2012. It has taken the Maestro team YEARS to get this far. Thankfully, we have surpassed the riskiest aspect of making an independent documentary: development, principal photography, and the majority of post-production. Essential permissions and clearances have already been handled. For the most part, the film is complete. Our final challenge is meeting our release schedule.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
