The Story So Far
Back in 2011 I was a design student, working my way through a Product/Industrial Design degree. One of the main concepts we were taught again and again was observation and problem solving. I took the lesson to heart and adopted it as a way of life.
So one day during my lunch break I was looking into getting another tattoo and faced the dilemma that I only had so much skin, yet I wanted many more tattoos than could fit on it.
Problem solving time.
I thought, what if you had a second skin, and could swap the tattoos at will..
Fast forward a week, my budget tattoo kit had just arrived and a quick visit to a leather shoe factory left me with everything I thought I needed.
I realized two things very fast. Firstly tattooing is nowhere near as easy as I thought and secondly that I was going to have to change the inks and equipment to make this work properly.
3 Months later..
I was making progress, the lines were cleaner, the homemade inks didn't bleed or fade, the machines worked smoothly and allowed for greater precision, it all seemed perfect. The only thing I was really worried about was durability, how would it last in the long run.
The picture above is was taken as I am writing this, It has lasted 5 and a half years of torture. I took it everywhere for a few years, It was left outside in the rain, it's been washed with my clothes more than a few times, thrown in the mix of a messy student backpack, twisted, bent and generally harassed. I regularly treated it with oils and did my best to clean it up each month. The inks held and I was extremely happy with the result.
From hiatus to now
At the start of 2015 I experienced an event of extreme personal pain and loss, The following months left me out of study and at an all time low with no interest in anything. One morning I received a phone call, a week later my things were packed in storage, I boarded a plane, moved across the country and began work at my new job.
2 years later here I sit, my life back on track and going better than ever, and you know what? I really miss my craft.
And finally the reason for this campaign
You see I believe the narrative, the events, the twists and turns are the driving forces behind a project. It develops it into something great!
During the 2 year period I was working on myself and my life, a good portion of my equipment was lost and or damaged. This was due to being moved multiple times and other unforeseen complications.
I am asking for $500 for this campaign, this will cover the replacement pieces for my machines, blades, oils and inks. As I customized these all to fit my needs exactly I cannot buy them anywhere.
I have only one reward option for this campaign and that is flash art pieces.
You have the option of either:
On your choice of product I will also tattoo your selected image from flash art sheets sent out on completion of the campaign.
This is a passion for me and a satisfied follower is one of my top priorities. I will sent images of the finished product before sending to guarantee that you are satisfied.
Risks and challenges
The only foreseeable challenge will be timing, as I cannot do it full time due to my job. It will take me a few weeks to rebuild my equipment and properly produce the ink. But with this being a flash project, I will be able to finish the pieces within the time frame without any problems.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
