While singer-songwriter Dan Mills and I were working as understudies at Million Dollar Quartet on Broadway I had this idea to take Dan's stunning songs and create an original musical based on his dynamic words and music. After a 6 week workshop and standing room only run at CAP21 we knew we had something very special - the songs were, in fact, theatrical and the audiences wanted more more more.
In July we presented Fiction In Photographs - In Concert as a benefit for New York-based Sing For Hope. A sold out crowd at Tribeca's 92Y, a spellbound audience and standing ovation fueled our fire.
An early August industry-only presentation on 42nd Street led to dozens of meetings, phone calls and lots and lots of talking. Fiction In Photographs is moving forward and we're making real progress. Dan and I are hard at work fine-tuning the show, telling the story we want to tell and creating a brand new exciting contemporary musical theater score. We're also raising additional funding to take our work to the next level. You can be instrumental in helping this innovative new musical be the next big thing.
Our exciting new cast features Sosie Bacon, Cole Burden (Les Miserables), Adam Halpin (Dogfight, Rent), David Mizzoni and Lauren Pritchard (Spring Awakening).
Dan says, "As a songwriter and an artist I try and write from an honest place. My process is in-the-moment and very personal for me. I never really know where a song is going to end up in the world if it ends up out there at all. So, seeing my music travel from pen & paper to the theater is something that is very exciting and refreshing for me. Fiction In Photographs has transformed these tunes into something I could have never imagined, and being an artist for a while now, it's surprised me how a collaborative vision can grow into an amazing piece of art."
This month we will build on what we've created so far. We'll spend our time developing the concept. We will also take a look at movement, staging and choreography. In addition to the time we spend developing the concept, story and musical staging we will build new vocal arrangements and orchestrations. Our musical director, Adam Podd, and Dan's band are all on board as we boldly go where new musicals dare to go - development!
Be the first to see Fiction In Photographs October 10th thru 13th.
You will also have the chance to see our work. In October you are invited to join us at New World Stages for a series of "first look" presentations of Fiction In Photographs. Supporters will be invited to sit in on rehearsals, meet the cast and creative team, ask questions and play a part in the development of this new musical.
I stood in front of one of our sold-out crowds and proudly announced that this project is my heart and soul. I'm saying it again now. This is the next big thing and we want you to be a part of its growth. So, check out the incentives in the sidebar and get involved - whatever you can give. And then, maybe on opening night here in New York or maybe years and years from now at a small theater in Kansas City or Tallahassee or wherever YOU are, you can say you knew us when.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
