A film about actors starring some of the world's best actors: Ted Levine, Laurie Metcalf, Nathan Lane and more.

My movie project tells a story about the private world of actors, a world that's funny, and bittersweet, and rich with creativity. It's a world where incredible bonds form.

I asked Ethan Sandler, a friend and talented screenwriter, to write a script that would capture all of the drama that happens to actors off camera: the heartbreaks and the joy, but most important, the friendships that keep us going through even the bleak times.

And then all these great actors fell in love with his finished script for No Pay, Nudity and signed on.

We all have long careers on Broadway, and in film and TV, like Laurie Metcalf a brilliant stage actress who you also know as Roseanne's sister Jackie, or Ted Levine, who you know from the current hit show The Bridge, the TV series Monk and in his terrifying role as Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs, and Jessica Hecht, the Broadway and TV star who had that great supporting role on Friends. You know Nathan Lane from a multitude of wonderful projects including The Birdcage and The Producers and his recent Tony nominated performance in The Nance

Our cast also includes the talented actors Boyd Gaines, J. Smith Cameron, Austin Pendleton, Mark Blum, Jeremy Shamos, Jeanine Serrales, Zoe Perry, Joel Higgins, Reg Rogers, Peter Jacobson, Alex Draper, John Bedford Lloyd, Cory Michael Smith, Benjamin Sinclair, Danny Binstock, Ellen Foley and Brent Spiner, the comedian Lewis Black, and the incredible Loudon Wainwright III, who is creating the original music.

And there's me, director Lee Wilkof. My first big break was playing Seymour in the Off-Broadway hit Little Shop of Horrors.

Me then
Me then

I met my wife Connie Grappo on that show. Over the past 40 years as an actor I've had great breaks, some huge flops, met a few jerks, but mostly I have worked with incredible people.  I know the business, and I'm ready to move forward with a project that everyone can get behind.

Me now
Me now

Most actors like us don't get hired for being pretty. We all get great jobs because we're committed to hard work, to putting our heart into every role, even if it isn't the first name on the credits, but most of all, because we love to be able to bring a great story to life for our audience: You.

Kickstarter offers an alternative to the purely economic set-up in today's Hollywood. Where stories that might otherwise be passed on get their chance. Where little stories with big hearts and meaningful messages find a way to get made. We think No Pay, Nudity is that kind of movie.

I've assembled an incredible creative team, the script is both heartbreaking and hilarious, and we have New York City and Times Square for our set.

Making a full length feature film has all kinds of costs that may not be apparent in the finished production but try making a movie without a sound mixer, or a costume designer.

The $450,000 we're raising to complete No Pay, Nudity is the absolute minimum we'll need to deliver a movie to you. The money we raise above that minimum only makes the film stronger: It buys us extra time to shoot a scene perfectly and pay the added permit fees to the City of New York. It lets us hire the very best professionals to shoot and edit. It gives us a buffer against weather and the little surprises that can lead to budget overruns.

Our current budget covers the basic "above the line" costs: the director, writer/script/development costs, producer, cast and casting director.

It also includes the "below the line" cost for a multitude of jobs:
production support staff, production designer, art and prop departments, set and prop rentals and purchases, costume designer, wardrobe rental and purchases, director of photography, camera department, camera equipment and drives, electric department, grip and electric equipment, sound mixer and boom, sound recording equipment, make up and hair
supplies, location manager, location site rentals, transportation, catering/craft services to feed the crew. (Yes, mostly it's about the food. Remember, there are actors involved.)

And then we have the Post Production costs which include:
editor, editing equipment, composer, music composition and recording
sound design (including ADR, effects editing and mixing)
finishing and deliverables.

You can see that it takes a lot of good people to make a great film, but in this project our most important people are you, our Kickstarter backers.

With even a $25 pledge you'll get exclusive access to a "How We Made the Movie" blog, with video outtakes and interviews and the kind of insider stuff that makes movie making fun, and best of all you'll get to see the movie before it reaches the public.

We've added some big backer rewards, like your name in the closing credits or even a small speaking role on our NYC set. How about dinner for you and three friends with me and Nathan at a popular Broadway hangout? I promise that will be an experience you'll never forget.

Thanks for pledging, and when you've done that, you can continue to help us reach our goal by clicking that Facebook link you'll see just below the video. Share the site with your friends and be a part of this great project.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

I've acted in over 100 films and television shows, and scores of plays on and off Broadway. I've surrounded myself with very gifted and skilled professionals who've been successfully making films for a long time. We know that making No Pay, Nudity in New York City will be challenging. Just getting home to Brooklyn from the theatre district on the subway can be challenging! Weather, permits, transportation, equipment, and schedules are all potential problems when you're on a low budget and a tight schedule. But my team of New Yorkers knows its way around this city and we know how to get things done. The actors we've cast are all very busy, working performers who're willing to make big sacrifices to do No Pay, Nudity for a fraction of their normal fees because they believe in it. There is always the possibility that a cast member could be forced to drop out due to a scheduling conflict, but right now we have a committed cast and the ability to fill any openings that may arise. We're fortunate to have developed a vast network of professional associates and friends to bring No Pay, Nudity to the screen.
