First of all, thank you for taking the time to visit my kickstarter page. It’s the first step in making one of my dreams come true. If you've already watched the video and feel sufficiently informed, then feel free to stop reading now. But if you want a little more information and want to know my history in a nutshell, please continue. Either way, I won't know what you decided. Therefore, my feelings will remain unharmed.
As you probably know by now, my name is Josh Rosonet. I’ve been passionate about music my whole life, and began singing in front of crowds at a very young age. My first interest in an instrument was the drumset, which could be expected from any 6 year old boy. I began there with the journey of teaching myself how to play instruments, and moved on to piano, guitar, and bass. I had a couple random lessons on piano, but I found out quickly that traditional music lessons were not the path I was going to take. I began by picking out melodies on my grandmother’s piano, then learning how to put chords with that. The interest in guitar began at camp when I was 14. You just couldn’t be the cool guy at camp unless you could sit around and play the guitar. So a guy taught my best friend Cody and I four chords in the key of G, and we spent the next few years developing our knowledge of the acoustic guitar and learning from each other.
Around the age of 16 is when a musical angel, in the form of a skinny little white dude with crazy hair, came in to my life. Alex Jolly was a musician I had looked up to for years, and when we ended up at the same place, I was more than eager to learn from him. He invested so much time in me, teaching me music and becoming a friend, that this is when I truly began learning how to be an actual musician instead of just a boy that could sing. I began playing bass for the youth band, which I fell in love with, and bass soon became my primary instrument. I learned more in those two years than many musicians learn in 10, and for that I daily feel very blessed. During this time I was introduced to the number system, which is now the basis of everything I play as a musician. It was also when I was first introduced to performing in the studio. This is obviously a whole different monster than live performances, and I was lucky to be exposed to it at such a young age. I still have the first song I recorded in his studio, and even though it was somewhat of a pitiful performance, its priceless to me. I did the vocal track on a song written by my friend Andrew Blaylock titled “Real”, and hopefully I can one day give it another shot and redeem myself. haha
I continued to grow my knowledge vocally and instrumentally through my time at Tupelo High School and into community college at ICC. I was blessed to play music with many talented musicians through the showchoir programs there, along with making many life long friends. I was also always involved with different bands in the area, playing birthday parties or worship services or whatever opportunity presented itself.
Then I moved to Hattiesburg to begin college at the University of Southern Mississippi, and everything changed. I got plugged in playing bass at First Baptist Hattiesburg, and it wasn’t long after that until I was presented with the opportunity to play for what I consider my first professional gig. Another musical angel dropped into my life, in the form of a round soft spoken bald guy with an awesome beard, and I became a part of the Tom Edwards Band. From here the professional offers continued, and I have been a part of many different bands, and many different studio projects since. I formed a band with friends about a year ago called The Press. My closest friends are already familiar with that name, because it was also the name of my first band that was formed in high school. Since then everyone has moved on to different things and different places, and I see this now as the next chapter of the same book. I couldn't ask for a better, more talented group of friends to make music with, and we're ready to take the next step.
The only products that have ever come directly from me are my YouTube videos. I have made six of them so far, and have been so blown away by the amount of feedback and support received in response. Now it is time to take what I have learned through the years and make something bigger happen.. my first EP! We are all so beyond excited to record this album for you, and finally have a product to offer. Something you can take home and put on your ipod or listen to in your car. The EP will consist of 5 original songs that have never been released, and one cover song which I will keep to myself for now. But for it to actually be recorded, we desperately need your support and simply cannot do it without you.
The reason I haven’t made anything before now is because of the amount of money it takes to create such a project, but Kickstarter was created solely for this purpose... to give artists a chance to create things they couldn’t fund on their own. So I am giving this thing a shot, hoping and praying that my family, friends, and fans come through for me. All I’ve ever really wanted to do is make music. Most people assume that I’m the typical guy who has always wanted to be a rockstar, but I feel that I’ve always had a more grounded idea of my music than most. Yes, I do dream of big stages with plenty of fans and a full touring calendar, but my goal is simply a successful career. I want to make a comfortable living doing what I love. And I feel making this album is the next step at making that dream a reality. Thankyou so much for you time, and your pledge. No dollar will go unnoticed or unappreciated. Let’s do this!
