About this project
None of us want to pay to check in a bag. We want to travel with a single bag that we can take on board, that gives us easy access to the things we need. The Arcido Bag is the perfect carry-on bag that protects your stuff and keeps you super-organised.
Choosing the right bag relies on much more than looking good. It’s about feeling secure and comfortable when you travel, with enough versatility to adapt to different situations. The Arcido Bag was designed with your entire journey in mind. From packing to airport security and beyond.
Felix and I met in Edinburgh last summer - we had both been pursuing our own bag projects independently and saw an opportunity to work together. I’d been buying bags and selling them online for a few years but was frustrated with the quality of design. Felix takes pride in designing quality products which people love, particularly soft products. He also loves travelling so between us we figured we could combine our experience to create and deliver something really remarkable.
We're both passionate about one-bag travel. Our dream was to be able to take everything we need to work on the road in a single bag that goes as hand luggage. As people who work on our laptops, we want our tech to be well-protected and easy to access. We already have one bag in production and on the market. This allowed us to work closely with our manufacturers to create the initial designs, and around 6 months finalising the product. The result is The Arcido Bag!
In return for supporting the project now, you can get you hands on a number of rewards first, at a heavily discounted price.
‘One bag travel’ is all about functionality and convenience. The concept was to design a bag for those who don’t want their gear to hold their travel experience back. We travel a lot so our target group was initially ourselves although later we worked with friends, family and other people who spend lots of time on the move to understand what are the big travel annoyances which we can address. Following our research, we moved quickly from sketches to prototyping, trialling, testing and improving until now where we have refined the design and developed a production ready sample.
We have searched far and wide for a manufacturer who can construct our products to the highest standard under fair working conditions. We spent many weeks working with our chosen manufacturing partner and we’re delighted with both the quality of workmanship and their demonstration of ethical business practice.
We've tried to be as proactive as possible to ensure that we distribute the goods as quickly as possible. We've paired up with an extremely competent distribution company with warehouses across the world. We know that they're the best for the job!
Arcido was set up to make one-bag travel easier and smarter. We’re based in Edinburgh, UK but spend as much time travelling as we can. Travelling with a bag on your back leaves you feeling more free do what you what you want so it’s definitely the way that we prefer to travel. We couldn’t find a bag that fulfilled our functional criteria so we’ve built a brand to make the best, beautiful carry-on bags.
It’s already taken more than 6 months of hard work to get The Arcido Bag into what we think is the perfect carry-on bag. Now we’re looking for backers to help us fund our initial production run. Reaching our goal will mean we’ve got enough funds to cover our manufacturer’s minimum order requirement. Having received great feedback from product testers and reviewers, we’re confident The Arcido Bag is going to be a success. And we’re looking forward to making more travel bags in the future!

Risks and challenges
Between us we’ve worked for a number of companies producing soft products handling all aspects of bringing new bags to market so this definitely isn’t our ‘first rodeo’!
We’ve also meticulously planned the campaign which should mean that the production and fulfilment process runs smoothly. That said, some eventualities are uncontrollable but we’ll do everything we can to prevent delays. We also promise to keep our supporters updated with progress.
What is Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform that allows creators to fund projects. It's a way of guaranteeing us customers when we launch our product - your pledge goes into a total pot which we put towards the cost of producing and distributing our product. Once we have enough pledges, we'll have enough funds to go into production.
You aren't charged until our funding period ends. However Kickstarter will place a temporary block on your card for the amount you pledge.
If you pledge, it'll take a few months to receive your bag. That's because our manufacturing time is 40 days, and it takes around 30 days to ship the product to Europe/USA by sea. However, by backing our project now you'll get a much better deal on the bag - all our pledge tiers are lower than the RRP. You're also helping to support an early stage startup, and for that we're really grateful!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Rest assured that we have heard absolutely every possible pronunciation of our company name: “Ar-SEE-doh”, “Arky-DOO”, “Ar-SAI-doh”; you say it, we’ve heard it. We’re delighted to confirm once and for all that the correct pronunciation is “ar-KEE-doh” (or /ɑːˈkiːdəʊ/, if you want to be technical). This is because we were originally going to call our brand “Archipelago” because it’s a cool-sounding word, but over time it morphed into Arcido, the name we all know and love. We hope this clarifies things a bit!
The smart baggage tag is made by homingpin and is a way of easily tracking your bag if it gets lost. Your tag will connect into the lost property systems of over 1000 airports. To set it up you just need to register your tag on the homing pin website : https://www.homingpin.com/
To add a tag to your Arcido Bag, simply increase your pledge by £5 for every tag you need.
We had a question from Daniel recently who is lucky to have dual nationality and travels with two passports. The simple answer is that there are two passport-sized pockets inside the laptop compartment. And whilst the document holder comes with all of our bags, it's not the only place to store your passport. When I travel with my partner, I store both passports in that inside section so I know where they both are.
