About this project
This is Laura Brody and Heidi Dakter. Hi! (You can read about us at the bottom)
We were asked to create performances and workshops for the Summerset Festival of the Arts in Baraboo, Wisconsin - the birthplace of the modern American circus. We were thrilled! We began to brainstorm and the ideas grew:
The event starts with a neo-circus fashion parade. We'll dress the audience in garments created live from old circus materials. The local Ringmaster from Circus World will head the parade.
We'll have workshops on building your own memory boxes and how to drape with staples and leftover sheets.
Gallery shows will feature the fabulous collection of circus costumes from Circus World Museum, pieces from the renowned American Player’s Theater and the local Dr. Evermor’s beautifully-odd salvaged mechanical creatures.
It was a lot to ask, but we shot for the moon...
Then fears of state budget cuts loomed. The festival still wants the parade (and so do we!). Now it's time to make it happen anyhow!
The $5000 will get us out to Wisconsin from CA. It will pay for the workshops and parade dressing and cover the fee for the ringmaster and local clowns. With this money we'll be able to rent gallery space and make sure that we have all of our administrative bases covered (cleaning, insurance, permits, printing and hauling). We also want to make sure that we can provide you with the best prizes possible.
Please donate what you can.
We swear we'll give you great stuff.
