UPDATE: As of this afternoon (13 Nov), I hit the $3,000 goal. But with over half the campaign left to go, I'm not stopping there. Please continue to support the campaign to help offset the costs for my debut museum exhibition. There are still many unique rewards available at all gift levels. Thank you very much for your support!

My name is luke kutis. Some of you know me as Jordan Scoggins. I've created this Kickstarter campaign in support of my debut solo museum exhibition. While my work has appeared in various galleries and alternative spaces, a musem show is a big step as an artist and I'm reaching out to art fans and supporters, family and friends, and fellow creatives to help make it all possible.

In March 2014 I will mount INTERSECTION at Massillon Museum in Massillon, Ohio. The show is focused around my southern photography and includes other multimedia and conceptual elements. As a followup to my Jordan's Journey project, this body of work is right at home with Massillon Museum's "where art and history come together" approach.

As my first museum show, this exhibition is a game-changer for my career as an artist. But putting on a museum quality exhibition is an expensive undertaking and I need all the help I can get to successfully pull it off. Your donation will help in the creation of two large-scale works in the show, transportation and art handling, and the publication of an exhibition catalog. Every donation helps, no matter how small. If I don't reach the project goal, I don't get anything. This means every contribution is important and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for anything you can give.

I've created several tiers of rewards which you will receive for your generous donation. This project means the world to me and I want you to be a part of that world. By supporting my work you are supporting the arts and creative culture at large. Thank you for your time and for your investment in my project.

About the Exhibition

INTERSECTION is a poetic interpretation of the artist's roots in the rural south focusing on landscape, nature, and architecture. The photos were taken mostly in northwest Georgia in Chattooga, Walker, and Whitfield Counties. Early works from the series and the related Jordan's Journey project were first displayed in 2012 at the Summerville Library in Chattooga County. Work from these projects has also been on view at local events in LaFayette and Villanow, GA and has been shown in galleries and alternative spaces in Chattanooga, TN; Dalton, GA; Portland, OR; Raleigh, NC, Richmond, BC (Canada); and New York City. Articles and photographs from the project have also been published in Georgia Backroads, a journal devoted to the artist's home state. INTERSECTION is the artist's first museum show and largest solo show to date. It opens at Massillon Museum in March 2014.

About the Artist

luke kurtis (also known as Jordan M. Scoggins) is a Georgia-born interdisciplinary artist focusing on the intersection of photography, writing, and design. Self-portraiture is an ongoing element of the artist’s photography as well as an interest in art/architecture, nature/abstraction, and digital collage/video. His project Jordan's Journey uses genealogical and historical research as a device to explore the idea of personal and collective memory. His related articles and photography have appeared in Georgia Backroads. Bookmaking is a primary activity as it fuses the visual and the literary beyond gallery walls and into the hands of viewers. He lives and works in New York's Greenwich Village.

About the Rewards

I am offering the below rewards in thanks for your donation and support.

I created the singing postcard set earlier this year as part of the INTERSECTION project. It's a conceptual work that ties into the overall theme of my rural southern upbringing as interpreted in the exhibition. The postcard set will be exhibited in Memory: International Mail Art Exhibition at Richmond Art Gallery in Richmond, BC, Canada later this year. For your donation I will send you one complete set (three postcards).

I began publishing the INTERSECTION zine in February 2013 and distributed it to an inner circle of friends. The zine is not only a mail art publication but also part of an installation art piece that will be featured in the INTERSECTION exhibition. Each issue is unique and features my original writing and art. I will send you a full set of all INTERSECTION zines published through the time of the exhibition in March 2014.

I will create an original 8x10 fine art digital chromogenic print of this photograph from my INTERSECTION series. The photo was first exhibited in Field Notes: Landscape and Architecture at Black Box Gallery in Portland, Oregon earlier this year. I am making this print available at a special price exclusively through this Kickstarter.

The INTERSECTION catalog will collect the work from the exhibition, including original and found texts. The book will be printed on photo quality paper stock. This catalog is central to the entire project. By investing at this level and above your donation goes that extra mile to help make INTERSECTION a reality. Not only will I send you an autographed copy of the catalog, your generous support will also be acknowledged in the book itself.

This level combines the previous two levels. You will receive both the autographed INTERSECTION catalog along with the limited edition photo print. Your generous support will also be acknowledged in the book itself.

In 2005 I held my first solo exhibition, lazy dreams and other memories. For your donation at this level I will give you a limited edition portfolio of 15 digital chromogenic prints (13 photographs + 2 digital collages) that made up this exhibition. These photographs anticipated the INTERSECTION body of work and the greenprint for a civilization digital collage (one of the most popular works of my career) is a pre-cursor to my muse series. This is a unique opportunity to own a full series from my early days as an artist. You will also receive the autographed INTERSECTION exhibition catalog, including your acknowledgement.

We Are One People is a limited edition boxed set containing my article "We Are One People" on a set of 12 cards accompanied by a set of 12 mounted digital chromogenic prints. This is a super deluxe, high end limited edition artist multiple. You will also receive the autographed INTERSECTION exhibition catalog, including your acknowledgement.

Jordan's Journey is a unique artists book combining elements of genealogy, memoir, photography, and design. The book is featured in over 10 public collections around the country as well as numerous private collections. The project was written up in several newspapers including a front page story in the Walker County Messenger. I will send you an autographed copy of the book. You will also receive the autographed INTERSECTION exhibition catalog, including your acknowledgement. Additionally for your generous support you will also be credited in the INTERSECTION exhibition itself.

This top tier is designed to offer the most unique and valuable rewards for your donation. You will receive the limited edition We Are One People artist multiple along with the Jordan's Journey artists book. You will also receive the autographed INTERSECTION exhibition catalog, including your acknowledgement. Additionally for your generous support you will also be credited in the INTERSECTION exhibition itself.

Risks and challenges

Mounting a museum quality art exhibition is not an easy task. There are many challenges and risks, both creative and financial. The experience I have gained from the success of my projects over the past few years will allow me to work through any obstacles I may come up against. I have already put too much into this project to turn back now.
