About

I do hate waiting in queues. Especially at the doctor's. Don't you? We wait for hours on end and even if we are not sick when we arrive, we stand a big chance of catching some nice virus and taking it home. Just so we have an excuse to come again...

In the 21st century of electronic wonders, isn't there a better way to organize this? Some private clinics have invested in software development and allow you to make appointments via phone or internet - a good start, but hardly a 100% customer-friendly solution. Why? Because you are not informed proactively about delays, so you get to stand in the queue anyway. Plus, public hospitals have no budget for such expensive softwares.

With "Take a Number" we would like to offer a solution that costs next to nothing, and covers not just appointment handling but virtual queueing as well - allowing clients to make good use of the idle time and appear on site only when they are actually next in line. We are planning a free platform meant mainly for small clinics, private doctors and other providers, where:

1) providers (doctors, hairdressers, government agencies) can...
register with a few clicks (even from mobile phones)
    create calendars
    manage appointments
    manage customers waiting in line
communicate with customers via sms or e-mail

2) customers can...
make appointments
take a virtual number and avoid waiting in the queuereceive notifications about delays and plan accordingly

take a number even from home

utilize NFC capable mobile phones to take a number on site

This platform will be developed as a cloud service and will run in the Microsoft Azure environment, with interfaces for standard PCs, mobile phones and tablets.

Timing and status: Development is ongoing for the web portion, but we are collecting for continuing on with the mobile application. NFC reader concept ready.

  • Web development started January 1st, 2014
  • Web beta will be ready July 1st, 2014
  • Mobile beta IOS wish date October 1st, 2014
  • Mobile beta Android wish date December 1st, 2014

Risks and challenges

Providers (doctors) may not want to replace paperwork with a web based application.
For clinics with a customer base of elderly people less inclined to use mobile technology, a cheap solution is needed for local queue number printing (concept is already available).
