About this project
13 Hats invites you to the experiment. It is nothing less than the evocation of feralism—a movement that does not exist, yet by its very nonexistence is suited to address this fundamental question: What if nature is nothing but a struggle to ask what is possible?
Help incarnate feralism.
Photos. Ink. Scratches. Paint. Words. Utterance.
For nearly a year, a group of writers and artists from Portland, Oregon have gone hopelessly wild under a relentless provocation to breathe life into feralism. From this group, 13 Hats, there has emerged a multidimensional collaboration in search of abundance that demolishes the very notion of scarcity, rawness that defies the struggle to compartmentalize, normalize and enclose.
We need your words and your support. We need you to feed the debut of The Feralist.
Your funds will be used to turn this 13 Hats collaboration into the centerpiece of the first issue of The Feralist, a 36-page tabloid-size full-color publication for 1,000-copy distribution throughout the West Coast. You will also support the debut of the journal in March, 2013, at an event at 12x16 Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
To see samples of the work of 13 Hats, check out our web site at www.13hats.org.
If we meet our fundraising goal, the poet Standard Schaefer will pledge to keep feralism alive with regular issues of The Feralist to come, featuring art, poetry, and other creative endeavors from West Coast artists.
Risks and challenges
A 2012 grant from the Regional Arts & Culture Council has made the substantial new work of 13 Hats possible. Now, we need the support and participation of our community to debut this work in the most publicly accessible, vibrant and participatory way.
Because we have a commitment from the 12x16 gallery for a show, and the work is ready to go, we don't anticipate any setbacks for our March event. The content of the collaborative performance depends entirely on the contributions we receive—but we are absolutely committed to making it happen!
If production schedule problems arise with printing of The Feralist or the commemorative libations cocktail book, 13 Hats pledges to keep our backers informed about the delivery date for these items.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
