Miles of creative, colorful fun. Chalktrail brings the simple, timeless joy of riding a bike or scooter together with the creative expression of decorating the neighborhood streets and sidewalks with bright and colorful chalk. We like to call this unique combination of outdoor activity and artistic creativity “ARTIVITY”. It’s one of those products that you instantly get the second you see it. The concept is beautiful in its simplicity and the play pattern is expressive and fresh. No bright lights, flashing screens, blaring noises, cords, batteries or internet connections. Just kids, wheels, chalk, fresh air and fun. It’s the kind of product that could have been made a half-century ago but, for some inconceivable reason, wasn’t.
Kid friendly. In designing Chalktrail, our goal was to make the physical products as simple as the concept itself. Most importantly, we wanted a toy that kids could manage independently without having to run inside and ask mom or dad for help every 3 minutes. Chalktrail doesn’t require any tools to install and can be put on a bike or scooter quickly and easily, even by a child. And the same goes for the way giant pieces of Chalktrail Chalk are inserted and adjusted.
Universal design. Another design challenge we wanted to solve with Chalktrail was coming up with a one-size-fits-all solution. Bikes comes in 6 different wheel sizes, ranging from 12” up to 29”, and we certainly didn’t want to have a different product for each of them. What we came up with was an adjustable chalk holder that has multiple positions for different bike wheel sizes. Again, without tools or hardware, Chalktrail for bike can be quickly and easily adjusted to work with any bike. This means the same Chalktrail that works with dad’s 26” wheel beach cruiser also works with junior’s 12” starter bike. Similarly, Chalktrail for Scooter was designed to work with nearly all "Razor" style single-rear-wheel scooters.
Big art. The real magic happens the second the chalk touches the road and the rider gets rolling. Kids are delighted as they circle back and see bright, vibrant lines showing where they’ve been. They instantly begin to retrace their path, which quickly evolves into an ever growing design. The street or sidewalk becomes a giant canvas, the rider an artist. And with each piece of Chalktrail Chalk lasting for up to 1 1/2 miles, the kids often wear out before the chalk does.
More fun with more friends. As much fun as it is for a single rider to be Chalktrailing, multiple Chalktrails increase the joy exponentially. Patterns become collaborative, and games of follow the leader take on a whole new meaning.
Please and thank you! The responses we’ve received from people who see Chalktrail in action have been unanimously enthusiastic. Everyone instantly gets it, and they love it. The only question they all seem to ask is “where can we get it?”. Well, that’s where Kickstarter comes in. We need your help in bringing Chalktrail to kids (big and small) everywhere. We’ve already gotten much of the hard work out of the way and have invested quite a bit of time and money in bringing Chalktrail to where it is today. The product design and engineering are completely done. The patents applications have been filed. The branding and marketing strategy is in place. The injection mold tooling is even done and ready to start pumping out product. We’re on the home stretch and all we need to do now is place an order with the factory to get production going, and this is where we need your help. We need to raise $37,000 to help us finance our first, large scale production run.
So if Chalktrail looks cool to you and resonates with your inner-child, please consider being a part of what we’re doing and bring the markings of joy and creativity to the streets and sidewalks of your home town. Thank you... it wouldn’t be possible without you!
No, your pledge is basically a pre-order. If Chalktrail is fully funded ($37,000 by April 15th, 2012) we'll hit the "GO" button on manufacturing. Then, when manufacturing is complete we'll ship you your Chalktrail products, according to your pledge level. If, however, Chalktrail is not fully funded by the deadline (and let's hope this isn't the case), no money ever changes hands - your credit card is never charged for your pledge amount.
The very first reward on the list, which is for a pledge of $15, gets you ONE Chalktrail for Scooter plus ONE 4-piece pack of Chalktrail Chalk. This gives you the same reward as you get with the $20 pledge level non-early backer reward, except you get it for $15 instead of $20. This is limited to the first 250 backers at this level. It's the same story with the $25 early backer reward. You ONE Chalktrail for Bike plus ONE 4-piece pack of Chalktrail Chalk for $25 (which is $35 at the non-early backer level) if you're one of the first 250 backers at this reward level. Sorry for any confusion.
