About this project
Thank you backers!!!
Final Stretch goal - 4"x6" woodcut print for every backer!
This is the last day and I really want to make this project extra special for everyone. So if we hit 50K I'll hand pull a special print on my press, number and sign this unique Oracle print for every backer! This print will be of the placard design and will be printed on museum-grade paper, the size of the edition will be the exact number of backers. I'll never print this again, ever, and it'll be free for you as a backer. This is my way of thanking everyone of you who has supported this project - you guys rock!
Metallic ink, foil embossed unbranded tucks are now unlocked! The matching boxes are going to look AMAZING and I can't wait to get my hands on them!
Sticker packs! I put together a great deal on heavy duty vinyl stickers - here's an image of the designs:
There's been a lot of requests for a Bicycle version of Oracle, but I've done a little more than just create a branded version. This is a Limited Edition DELUXE package with LUXOR Foil, metallic ink, and embossed tuck case, a double sided wooden mini-spirit board with authenticity and edition number on back, and an antique copper-finish planchette. This is package is add on-only for $28, $34 for International backers.
See add ons at the bottom of the page for more info and how to get these add-ons.
Talking boards, spirit photography, seances, ectoplasm, and levitating tables—the spiritualist movement has a rich history. I want to capture some of that history in a deck of USPCC playing cards.
The spiritualist movement grew out of mesmerism—which is what hypnosis used to be called. But with so much loss of life with the civil war, the spanish flu, and WWI, spiritualism became the hope for many across generations to contact more than the subconscious mind. It was a chance to reach their loved ones who had passed on. Many spiritualists believed they were able to reach "through the veil" and contact the spirit world.
Considered by some to be at best an interesting parlor distraction, by others as outright fraud, still many more viewed it as a chance to find solace, comfort, and closure to those whose lives meant the most and who's absence was unbearable.
All this history has for me added a lot of meaning and depth to this project.
Suits - Each suit will have a unique background as illustrated in the cards below. Also, each suit will have a theme—seance, automatic writing, and spirit photography.
This is a really cool Gaff card that one of our backers thought of to include in his magic routines:
Elaborate aces for all suits was a stretch goal that was unlocked, here's the Ace of Spades:
The card back has a reversible talking board design:
I've opted to design the number cards in circles and I'm pretty excited about it. Not only is it a unique way to design the cards, it also really fits the theme. Seances of course are circles of participants, and talking boards have prominent circles through which you read the messages:
You can probably see all the work, love and passion I've put into these cards, here are some of the production details:
This deck will be printed by the USPCC. As of now I'm planning on having it printed on Bicycle stock with "Magic" finish (Bee stock could become a stretch goal). It will be a limited printing—limited to whatever the final tally is from this KS campaign. The deck will not however be numbered and will arrive to you cello-wrapped.
The Box Design
I've spent a lot of time making sure I was getting the design right—a little spooky, worn and aged, and keeping with the time period. I hope you agree that the box design captures all of that and hits the right notes aesthetically:
Because of the popularity of the prints from my last project, I'm again offering woodcut prints of each royal design, the card back, and the aces. My process is to have the designs laser etched onto wood plates, I ink the plates, then run them through my press on museum-grade artist paper:
Here's an example of the detail this process makes possible (art is from my last project):
I think there's something really rare and special about the artistry of hand pulling editions personally. I'm thrilled to offer these gallery-worthy prints for about the same as what others offer mass-produced silk screened prints or even less than Giclee prints (which are nice, but don't be fooled, they're really just ink-jet prints with a fancy name). These woodcut prints are a unique chance to own a limited edition work of art—I haven't seen anyone else doing anything like this on KS.
All prints will be 12" x 16" on Stonehenge (cream color), with hand-torn deckled edges on 3 sides with the manufacturer deckle on the 4th. All prints will be 1 color only, signed and numbered editions.
Here's a list of all prints:
All royals, AOS, and by demand, the box front. When/if prints are added to this list they will be included in the $500 and $1000 pledge levels by default - those levels get every print created for the project.
Limited Edition Deluxe Bicycle Package - $28/$34 (International)
Only available as an add-on, this package includes the following:
(1) Limited Edition Bicycle brandeddeck:
- Metallic copper ink for the fine detailed areas
- Copper foil stamping
(1) Custom metal antique copper finish planchette,
(1) Custom wood double-sided spirit board/authenticity placard with edition number
The edition size will depend on the number of people who add this on, but due to manufacturing minimums there will be at least 1000 decks printed. The cards within are the same as the standard Oracle decks, but there is a LOT of collectability to this package which is one of the reasons I'm doing this—I want it to be extra special for all of you collectors.
Oracle Uncut Sheets - $50/$75(Int.) Uncut sheets are taken off the press as they're printed at the USPCC. They show every card in the deck, front and back. Each sheet will be signed and there is no limit to the number you may add-on. Each sheet is approximately 22" x 26.5"
T-Shirts - $22/$32(Int.)
Premium 4.2 oz. Available in S-XL (don't worry about the size until after the funding period closes, you'll be able to specify in a survey which size you'd like).
Extra Decks - $11 / $13 Int. No limit, add-on as many as you'd like. Add-on decks are UNBRANDED only. Bicycle decks are only available as part of the package above.
Sticker Pack (3 stickers) $6
Stickers are a premium heavy duty vinyl, comes in a 3 pack with sizes shown above. Free international shipping.
Antique Bronze Finish Coins—$10, shipping included for domestic and international
These are the same heavy-duty, 10 gauge, half-dollar sized coins I had minted for my last project. They're a great weight (about the same as 5 quarters), super detailed and have a gorgeous finish. Other coins are molded, these are minted and that's a difference you can see and feel in the detail. Nothing beats a 100 tons of pressure making every detail pop.
Here's a pic of an actual coin from my last project:

Risks and challenges
This is my second Kickstarter project, so I've learned a lot and understand what it's going to take to see this project through. There's always the risk of something unforeseen, but having been through the process already, I feel really confident I can make this one work too.
So you might be wondering why I'm launching a second project when I haven't shipped out my first project? As of right now, everything for Calaveras is out for production. In the meantime I had the idea for Oracle, and thought it would be great to put it out there given that its October and Halloween is coming up. The subject matter of Oracle seemed to really fit this time of year.
I'm on track to deliver Calaveras in December. By the time Oracle closes, Calaveras will be close to shipping so the timing should work out well. Plus I have a lot of folks helping me out behind the scenes, so I have peeps to fall back on and fulfilling Calaveras will not be a problem.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I'm trying to keep a solid separation between the project and my FT job. So I'll be answering comments and questions after about 7 EST.
All prints will be 1 color only.
I'll release each design as I complete them.
Yes, on the tail end of the project I'll be using backerkit to organize everything for fulfillment.
