About this project
(Rewards increased! See below!)
FOR BOTH NEW AND RETURNING AMETHYST PLAYERS!
RULE SYSTEMS BEING SUPPORTED:
4th Edition D&D
13th Age (NEW!)
Fate Core (NEW!)
Savage Worlds (NEW!)
Which side will you choose? Which weapons will you wield? Venture into lands once claimed by skyscrapers and factories, now overrun by elves, goblins, and dragons. Ride gracefully on horseback or plow through the wilderness in an armored transport.
Earth is torn between the order of science and the chaos of fantasy. The realm of magic has invaded our world, forcing man into the last few bastions of technology. These two worlds cannot mix. Will you embrace the wonder of legends and myths or accept the reality of refrigerators and washing machines?
For 500 years the planet was locked in stalemate, but no more. The Stones of Amethyst have risen. When brought together, they could decide the future of the planet, cast off the remaining shred of technology, or close off the world of magic forever. Choose your path and commit to the quest. Monsters will hunt you; machines will track you. No gods will help you; no prophecies will choose you. The fate of the world rests with you.
What’s the objective?
It is the singular goal of bringing Amethyst into full-color and introducing it to new and returning players. The end result will have several manifestations, the first being the release of Amethyst-Factions, the next supplement, for both 4th Edition D&D and Pathfinder. The second is a color-reboot of the original sourcebooks. Amethyst Renaissance 2.0 will only be a color-update but Amethyst Compendium will be a complete 4th Edition reboot, including content from both Foundations and Evolution, errata updated.
What’s the goal?
We are looking for $8000, which is all reserved for the production of content, not for the development of the DEM label or to fund other ventures. This will be for digital products only. We’re not sending out USB keys and T-Shirts as those all take away from the money we want to use to produce more Amethyst content.Anyone receiving a PDF as part of a reward will be able to acquire the color premium POD of that same PDF at print cost.

Anything earned this way will still be put towards the stretch goals (if we reach any). This offer will continue to run after the campaign ends (assuming the campaign succeeds).
Risks and challenges
Most of the writing has already been completed. All that remains is the commission of color artwork. Since the artist (Nick Greenwood) and I have worked together for nearly six years, the chances of him not being able to deliver quality artwork is slim. The only remaining obstacle is completing the material by the deadline; given my reputation for writing, only the severing of my limbs will prevent me from completing this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
DEM has been part of the alpha playtest and the original friends & family playtest earlier this year for D&D Next. We've been in contact with a core member of the D&D Next development team and we are certain that OGL and/or SRD support will be part of D&D Next's philosophy. We are more confident of third party support for D&D Next than we were for 4th Edition, and DEM was the first to sign onto the GSL back in 2008.
Here is what you can do with the artwork received:
Print them on any physical object (posters, mugs, clothes, etc.) as long the physical product is not sold.
Use them in any non-commercial fashion online (Facebook, YouTube, etc) as long as credit is given to Nick Greenwood and Dias Ex Machina.
Use them as wallpaper (computer or real)
The campaign goal is dedicated exclusively to artwork, and since the adaptations are identical in their setting details, said artwork would be identical for each book. The release schedule will not be exact mind you, with the 4E and Pathfinder editions coming out weeks before the release of the later adaptations (the Pathfinder reboot could be out as soon as Christmas).
Any reward offering a PDF will include a coupon allowing the POD in color premium from DTRPG at print cost, (meaning DEM receives no additional revenue from the POD order). Since the layout of these books has not been finalized, we can't lock down a specific printing cost for the PODs, though we expect them to be between $20-$35. These numbers are determined by DTRPG, not DEM.
No. There is no limit.
At the Factions level, will a supporter will receive Amethyst Factions for all supported systems, not just 4E and Pathfinder?
Yes. We have updated the reward levels in the body of the KS campaign which reflects this.
It was the Free RPG Day adventure for 4E, being expanded and converted to the other game systems.
The Compendium will be a combination of content of Foundations and Evolution. All the new powers for classes from Evolution will be merged into Foundations, the layout will be redone and the errata will be integrated. Additionally, elements of 4E we developed later from our experience with Apex and Ultramodern4 will also be injected to make Amethyst the best 4E setting game book ever. And of course, it will also be in full color. Likewise, the Hearts of Chaos module will be heavily updated to match with our experience with the rules.
The first priority is for the updated color images which will be used for the rebooted core rulebooks. The Pathfinder version will be released first, and most likely very quickly. The 4th Edition D&D will follow soon after, followed by the Fate Core and Savage Worlds editions. The expansion supplements will follow soon after. The 13th Age edition may take a bit longer depending on playtesting The D&D Next (5E) edition will have a release date the moment we have the rules in our hands. The listed arrival date in the Kickstarter refers the vast majority of books. The adventures written for the $500 pledges will take longer as they will only be created after all the core book and supplements have been released.
It's always been a staple of my games to play music in the background. Sometimes ambient, sometimes exciting, but always purposeful. The purpose of the soundtrack is to offer original music to fans and supporters in order to encourage their inclusion in their games, Amethyst or otherwise.
