WELCOME TO MY KICKSTARTER PAGE!
My name is Ryan Cooper, and I’ve been a professional filmmaker since 2003. So far, I’ve had a successful career as a film director, editor, and graphic designer working independently in live action and on web shows like THE GUILD, ARCADE ARMS, and TITAN’S GRAVE, as well as on feature films like GAME OF ASSASSINS.
In 2012 I was chosen for a mentorship by Disney artist, Mark McDonnell, and I became infatuated with the art of animation, and the power of creating something with your own hands.
As a youngster, I thought animation would be too difficult for me to launch a project of my own. But recently, with advances in software like SMITH MICRO’s ANIME STUDIO PRO, animation has now become something that can be accessible to artists like me.
The minute I tried the program, my imagination exploded and I was able to watch my art come to life.
That’s when the idea for Sasquatch & Son came to me…
Sasquatch & Son tells the hilarious story of a father and son and their humiliating attempts to get close to human beings on the edge of the forest. In the process, they both learn a thing or two about humanity and what it means to be a wild creature in an increasingly civilized world.
After my early successes with animation, it became clear our idea would make a fantastic web series. Teaming up with my best friend and producer Anton Iverson, whom I met at USC film school, we began to crystallize our dream of making an animated show. Having loved cartoons our whole lives, and working for YouTube channels such as Geek & Sundry, we were inspired by what someone could do with animation on a small budget and a short format.
A WEB SERIES
We have set out to create a fun web series which strives to be simultaneously hilarious for children and entertaining for adults.
We intend to make four 3-minute episodes that will be released by February 1st.
WHO ARE THE CHARACTERS?
SASQUATCH: A wild-man of the forest, Sasquatch has always lived a solitary existence. His life purpose is to tirelessly stand watch over the trees, as well as impart his code for the the defense of the wild to his son, Junior.
JUNIOR: A teenage “squatch”, Junior is still trying to find his place in the world. He realizes there’s more outside the boundaries of his home forest, and routinely collects items that campers leave behind. The advice he receives from his father is usually of little help, and it consistently leaves him completely confused.
GIRL: Junior has a bit of a crush on a girl that lives on the edge of the forest. The daughter of a retired silicon valley inventor, this girl wishes she was anywhere else but living in the middle of nowhere.
WHAT WILL YOU SEE IN THE EPISODES?
With these four episodes we want to get the Sasquatches closer and closer to their new human neighbors, and really pit the two groups against each other in hilarious ways.
Future titles include:
- What’s that Smell?
- Mating Ritual
- The Scream of the Squatch
Primarily, our rewards are intended to deepen our audience’s understanding of the world of Sasquatch & Son, and we’ve worked hard to bring you supplemental materials that give you tons of extras including:
- A Beautiful Digital Book of the Art of Sasquatch & Son
- An Animated Thank You e-Card from Sasquatch
- Early VIP Access to All Four Episodes
- Soundtrack of Sasquatch & Son
- Caricatured Likeness of You in the Show
- A Signed Print of Your Caricature by the Artist
In addition to that, we’ve teamed up with SMITH MICRO to offer you the following software as rewards so that you can create and animate your own cartoons, characters, and comics.
- Anime Studio Debut 9 - Create Your Own Cartoons and Animations
- Anime Studio Pro 9 - Complete Animation for Professionals
- Poser Debut - The Fun Way to Learn 3D
- Poser 9 - Easily Create 3D Character Art and Animation
- Poser Pro 2012 - Professional 3D Figure Design and Animation
- MotionArtist - Create and Animate Your Own Comics
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE SPENT?
With your much appreciated help, we will be able to hire the three key actors for the series, a sound designer, a composer, a background artist, and a part-time publicist. Your donations will also allow some crew members to work full-time on the project so that we can have Sasquatch & Son ready to launch by early next year on our website.
We are also working with PCB Productions, who are known for mixing and recording audio for games like Titanfall and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, to record and mix our audio.
If we exceed our goals, we will use funds to pay for entry fees and publicity kits for film festivals (e.g., the Seattle Film Festival, the LA Film Festival).

MEET THE TEAM
Ryan Cooper: A 2003 graduate of the USC School of Cinema and Television, Ryan Cooper is a diverse director with a distinct vision, a wacky sense of humor, and a talent for storytelling. With many years experience working at an advertising and graphic design firm on such films as Spider-man 3 and Casino Royale, he’s acquired an ability to weave story and design into a pleasing package. He’s won a variety of awards, such as Best Short Film for “Harry and Greta”, and has shown his projects in over 20 film festivals and venues from all over the world, including Comic-Con and the Staples Center. Currently, Ryan works on various projects including music videos, commercials, documentaries, feature films, as well as web shows for many of the industry’s top professionals such as Geek & Sundry and Evite.
Anton Iverson: Anton graduated in 2004 from the USC School of Cinema and Television and went on to become a professional linguistic anthropologist, with a focus on cultural contact and (mis)communication. (See why he’d be interested in signing on as a producer?) He worked with Ryan on several short film projects before as his producer, and this marks their first project together since finishing graduate school. In his off time, he does small video projects for local businesses and community groups. Anton loves combining his passion for screenwriting and producing with his anthropology background to tell compelling, humorous stories about the human experience.
HOW KICKSTARTER WORKS?
1. If we don't hit our target, we don't receive any money and the 4 episodes will not be made. :(
2. Each backer can only donate to one reward level per account (if you are a couple you could donate to two by registering separately.)
Risks and challenges
We are fortunate to have highly talented professionals who want to be involved in making this web series and are prepared to work for the bare minimum. Our main challenge is that they will be juggling Sasquatch & Son with other professional commitments. The production could therefore be delayed up to 3 months.
With regards for delivery times of the rewards, we are intending on delivering all software at the conclusion of the kickstarter campaign, however the majority of the other gifts should be ready by the end of November, and VIP access to the first episode should be ready by February 1st.
