Gloom, the award winning card game designed by Keith Baker and published by Atlas Games, has seen tremendous success as a physical card game, and with your help we intend to continue that success in Gloom: Digital Edition. Exploding with character and style, the denizens of Gloom are simply begging to be brought to life (so you can kill them)!
This campaign is to help fund the digital adaptation of the core set of Gloom: Second Edition along with the Unhappy Homes Expansion Pack. The game will support online multiplayer as well as a single player mode against AI. If this campaign is successful, tablet editions for Windows, Android, and iOS devices will be developed after the release of the PC version for Windows and Mac.

In Gloom, you assume control of the fate of an eccentric family of misfits and misanthropes. The goal of the game is sad, but simple: you want your Characters to suffer the greatest tragedies possible before passing on to the well-deserved respite of death.
You'll play horrible mishaps like Pursued by Poodles or Mocked by Midgets on your own Characters to lower their Self-Worth scores, while trying to cheer your opponents' Characters with marriages and other happy occasions that pile on positive points. When one of your family members finally suffers an Untimely Death, that Character and all of the tragic circumstances that led up to his demise are set aside until the end of the game.
The game ends the instant an entire family is eliminated. Each player then totals the visible Pathos points on each of his own dead Character cards to get their Self-Worth scores, and then adds these scores together to get his total Family Value. The player with the lowest total Family Value wins!

There's no question about it, Gloom is beautiful! Gloomy... but beautiful! In Gloom: Digital Edition, soak up all that delightful drudgery as you enjoy unique environmental backgrounds for each family. Was that a shadowy figure in that alley or a trick of the light?
What makes Gloom such fun is the storytelling. Each play-through weaves a unique series of mishaps and merriment that's sure to create some memorable moments.
So how will we translate this in the videogame? We'll let the characters speak for themselves! Every character in Gloom: Digital Edition will be fully animated. They'll also talk! At least the ones that have mouths...
Why Kickstarter? We want the fans to be involved from day 1 in recreating this beloved game. We can't think of a better place than Kickstarter to bring new and old fans of the game together to help us spread the Gloom... What's the money for you ask?
Our primary and most important expense will be development support for the game, itself. In order to make Gloom: Digital Edition into the online experience it deserves to be, we'll need to contract music composers, voice actors, and a number of other specialists onto the project. A small portion of our funds will go towards marketing, helping to make sure the world will know when Gloom is coming, and finally, a very small amount will go towards operational expenses, helping us keep the lights on.
What's the release plan? We plan on getting the PC release of the game to you in the summer of 2017, although we plan on delivering many of the backer rewards as soon as possible. We are planning on tablet releases for Apple, Android, and Windows as well, but will be announcing their release date later in development.

Risks and challenges
Although we will do everything in our power to deliver Gloom: Digital Edition in the Summer of 2017, we reserve the right to adjust that timeline if it becomes apparent that the game needs more testing or refinement before it hits the market. Above all else, we want to ensure that Gloom: Digital Edition is the best game it can be.
