Ellice Ruiz © is a sustainable & ethical ready-to-wear brand creating modern wardrobe essentials and artsy statement pieces for creative professionals that transition from the studio to the show. With minimal environmental impact and a commitment to giving back, we’re building a community for all you artsy, nature lovers.
The Ellice Ruiz collection is Girlfriend Tested™ by a diverse group of friends. Each garment is crowdsourced for thoughtful design features that flatter various body types, transition from day to night, and function for the creative lifestyle.
The Girlfriend Tested™ label ensures we've worked out all the kinks on each garment. We've tested all the pockets to make sure they're deep enough to comfortably store your cell phone. Women with different body types, their curves in different places, have had their recommendations included in the design of each garment. And when it comes to pants we've sampled them in every size and asked our friends to try them on to create an honest fit guide.
Sustainable design means doing everything we can to minimize our impact on the environment. One of our most sustainable and ethical approaches to design is creating high-quality garments that you'll love to wear again and again. By creating transitional clothes, clothes that can be dressed up and dressed down, we eliminate the need for buying clothes for every occasion. Wearing clothes 50 times instead of 5 (the fast fashion average) reduces carbon emissions by 400% per item, per year*! This means less CO2 in atmosphere and less carbon gas heating up our already warming planet. Ellice Ruiz clients are on the go and need wardrobe essentials that take them from day to night effortlessly.

Sustainability with Heart™
Ellice Ruiz believes giving is better than receiving. We are committed to donating a percentage of sales to people, causes, and charities helping to make the world a little bit brighter.
Ellice Ruiz will donate 5% of all proceeds raised this Kickstarter to an organization she holds very near to her heart called Food on Foot. Food on Foot is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the poor and homeless of Los Angeles through programs that provide nutritious meals, clothing, work opportunities and ultimately the transition to full-time employment and life off the streets.
By contributing to this Kickstarter campaign, you’ll be supporting a team of all female entrepreneurs! From design and development to production our team is all women and your support will help us build our businesses here in Los Angeles. We need more women in leadership roles and your contribution helps make this possible.
Made in Los Angeles
Designer Ellice Ruiz creates and produces her entire collection in Los Angeles. First, local construction greatly reduces pollution from overseas production because the garments don't have to travel long distances after they've been made. Second, it allows for small batch production so we don't have to over produce our collections to meet minimums set by the factories in other countries. Third, we thoroughly vet our manufacturers to ensure their facilities are safe and their employees are treated with care. Finally, we support the local economy by paying local producers a living-wage.
Inspired by Fashion Revolution's campaign #WhoMadeMyClothes and the global demand for greater transparency across the supply chain, we will also share the "behind-the-seams" stories about the craftspeople making our small batch collections. By contributing to this Kickstarter campaign, you'll also be supporting Oksana build her manufacturing business, RadSeams. With a shared commitment for sustainability and ethical business practices, Oksana and her team will produce our entire collection in Downtown Los Angeles.
Ellice Ruiz has been bootstrapping the design and development of this collection. The money we raise will help pay for pattern grading - essentially making the assorted sizes for each style. We will then invest in some additional fabrics and colorways. We will also purchase some additional sewing machines to streamline our local production. Finally, the money we raise will also cover the first production round.

Risks and challenges
We have worked strategically to minimize all areas of risk with this project, including:
The clothes: Ellice Ruiz has developed and Girlfriend Tested™ each piece in her collection. This focus on quality and attention to detail means that we are now ready to launch a high quality and sustainable collection for all you chic creatives.
The manufacturing: We have a strong relationship with our local and sustainable manufacturing partner. We've worked together through multiple sample iterations and studio visits. Our manufacturer even has additional staff lined up should we sell, sell, sell. We've planned our production schedule in advance so we're all on the same page and ready to go!
The delivery: We intend to have all orders shipped out to backers by early October. We will work tirelessly to avoid any delays so you receive your rewards on time. All of our rewards will be shipped in eco-friendly packaging materials and will be shipped with tracking.
We have set manageable limits on all our quantities based on available deadstock and sustainable wholesale fabrics. If we sell out these styles, we have other styles in our collection that we can offer as stretch goals.
