New to Year of the Goat? No problem…let's catch you up on what you've missed…
The Goatpocalypse has Begun! Across the United States, black birds swoop down, whispering into goats ears, transforming them into blood thirsty killing machines. Everyone's favorite farm animals suddenly have the ability to walk upright, speak our language…AND KILL!!! Issue 1 ends with the image of a mysterious figure walking down a desert road into Town of San Pueblo.
The goat attacks move to a worldwide level, targeting humans in places like Russia, France, India, China and the United Kingdom. We see a pack of goats gunned down by a shop keeper, only to rise from the ground moments later, unscathed…these monsters are indestructible!
The mysterious stranger finds his way into Old Jack's End of the Road Saloon and Gas Station where he is greeted at gun point by the blind owner and his granddaughter. They allow the stranger to rest for a bit, kick up his boots and enjoy a drink.
To say things escalate quickly is an understatement! The goats erratic guerrilla combat becomes organized as they act more and more as if they are human themselves.
Establishing their headquarters in a large cellular hub, the goats initiate a planned attack of uploading a radio-frequency virus, turning every cell phone on the planet into an explosive. The media is tricked into broadcasting a report that worldwide communication will be cut shortly, suggesting remaining survivors to take a moment to call their loved ones and say their goodbyes. Then the virus is activated ending most of the human race.
The stranger reveals he is headed to the Church of San Pueblo. As he makes his way, we senses Blue Bell's phone about to explode and saves her life. Old Jack is not so lucky.
Seconds before the old blind man passes, the stranger returns his eyesight, allowing him to see his granddaughter one last time. After a touching moment, Blue Bell can't decide what puzzles her more...how did the Stranger give Old Jack his eyesight, or why the Stranger is wearing medical wrist band that reads:
New Mexico Psychiatric Center
Name: John Doe.
A Flashback reveals the Stranger's years leading up current events...a patient in New Mexico Psychiatric Center. We meet Joe, a security guard who can speak to the dead in his dreams. His wife, who passed in an accident, demands Joe to release "John Doe" from his cell. He does and during their escape, he witnesses the Stranger kill three goats. Instead of resurrecting, they burn to dust.
John Doe heads to San Pueblo, after demanding Joe head back into to town and await further instructions.
With a revenge fueled vendetta, Blue Bell escorts the Stranger to the building that was once the Church of San Pueblo, which is now far from holy and overrun with demonic goats. After a bloody battle, Blue Bell and the Stranger search for a way into the basement. The search brings Blue Bell face to face with a remaining goat which they tie up.
The Stranger finds his sword, which he left hidden a long time ago. In a conversation with the prisoner goat, Blue Bell learns he remembers his former life as a human. With power held in his sword, the Stranger releases the evil held within the goat and assigns him with a task...become the Blue Bell's bodyguard. She is not happy.
