About this project
What problem does Hooey Savvy's Cookie-Wise Pablo address?
Hooey addresses the lack of basic personal financial education for kids. Schools rarely address the issue and many families have no tradition of handing down sound knowledge of personal finance. Hooey provides a way to discuss a touchy and complicated subject.
Why is this important?
While Wall Street lobbyists and Washington politicans fight over how to fix the financial system in the short-term, we still don't have basic personal finance education in our schools, never mind a tradition of handing down financial knowledge from one generation to another. The long-term solution to preventing future financial crises is education.
Hooey Savvy's Cookie-Wise Pablo is a children's book about financial education focusing on the basics of personal finance and introducing kids to such principles as trade-offs, scarcity, no free lunch, risk and other financial concepts through kid and animal protagonists, songs and the Digs & Duds budget dance.
In addition to addressing the rudiments of capitalism, Hooey introduces children to capitalism's pitfalls (grey/black markets, risk, buyer beware, etc) so they know what to expect later in life rather than learning hard lessons after the fact.
Lastly, Hooey is important because it addresses a subject most people don't like discussing: money. People either don't like talking about money because they believe how people spend their money is a personal matter or because they don't feel confident in their knowledge of money. Hooey gives parents, teachers and children an indirect and fun way of discussing personal finance through the experiences of the book's characters.
What's already done?
The text for the book has been written.
What is needed?
The book needs an illustrator to bring the text to life, to have an editor go over it with fresh eyes, to prep for publishing and cover other publication costs.
