About this project
Uber Discs was created out of a desire to bring a higher level of design to Frisbee culture. We have all seen the standard frisbee disc before, whether you play casually or tournament level they all tend to look something like this:
Now we're not knocking the disc itself. These discs float really well, and are our personal go-to Ultimate Disc. But we thought to ourselves, hey, how cool would it be if we took these normal white discs, and let some artists run wild with the design?"
The end result is our first print run of Uber Discs....
Now we're talking!
We plan to do some interviews with each of the artists so they can tell their story, and have it featured next to their artwork. In addition to getting recognition for their designs, we give 10% of every disc sold to the artist. Its a win-win for everybody! The disc community gets awesome, non-boring frisbees, and artists get a fun product to promote their work on.
Think of it like this.... Ultimate Discs + Artists = Über Discs
So here is where you come in. From the start this idea has been community based. To continue we need your support as a community on this first production run. We plan to have all pre-orders for discs out and shipped by April just in time for warmer weather. This can only happen if we reach 100% of our goal. If you want an Ultimate Disc that not only flies well but makes a statement, you can pre-order discs over here...
So to get things kicked off here is our 1st crew of Über Designers...
featured clockwise from top left: Emily Steffen, Erin Kinnane, Pat Ramey, and Jon Richards!
Below are enlarged versions of each disc designed by the artists that we would like to produce. All discs will be printed on 175g Ultra Star Ultimate Discs created by Discraft© and are acceptable for all levels of tournament play. You can pre-order/adopt an Uber Discs for $25 + shipping = $34 per disc. (please note: free shipping option limited to 50 discs!) These Discs are easy to throw and exhibit extremely stable flight patterns, floating better and flying farther than pretty much any other Ultimate Disc on the market. They put to shame the cheap-o discs many people grew up with as kids. The artwork is extremely resistant to wear as it is printed onto the face of the disc before the final layer goes on.
Below we have provided a little bit about each artist and their artwork so you can get to know the artist behind the design...Enjoy!
Uber Disc #1 The KOI FISH
designed by Pat Ramey
Pat's wooden Koi Fish design is so serene yet inspiring, that we felt the only way to properly describe it was through the use of Haiku...
Wooden Koi Peacefully
Swims Beneath the Surface but,
Will Float Above Ours
Boston Based Artist and Designer Patrick Ramey is constantly searching for new ways to explore. As an artist his work is often an unexpected and eclectic mesh of nature and machine. You can see more of his work at http://www.wix.com/rameyp/patrick-ramey-design and make sure to watch for his new backpack line set to launch in late spring.
Uber Disc #2 BLOOD SPLATTER
designed by Jon Richards
Jon Richards is the Founder and "Cheif Disc Thrower" for Uber Discs. After being inspired to start a company that combines REAL Art with "flying fun," he decided to start by producing the first design. He wanted to make a disc that would be talked about, and catch the attention of others. After many feeble attempts to create such a design he became so frustrated he grabbed a blank disc and whipped it across the room as hard as he could...
Uber Disc #3 DIZZY DOG
designed by Emily Steffen
Emily's design features an awesome depiction of a dog that appears to chase its own tail when thrown. This bright, illustrated design is sure to catch the attention of humans and dogs alike. Great for playing catch at the beach or park with your favorite canine.
As a recent college graduate, Emily is fairly new to the design circuit. She enjoys illustration the most, being a fine artist at heart, and defines her style as colorful and eclectic. She hopes to add a little flair to the frisbee world by making disc designs true to her style, and bright enough to stand out. If you are interested in contacting Emily for Graphic design work you can email her at email@example.com.
Uber Disc #4 UBER RED DISC
designed by Erin Kinnane
Uber Disc #5 UBER BLUE DISC
designed by Erin Kinnane
These cool "surf style" Uber Discs were created by our official on staff "Uber Creative Designer" Erin Kinnane. She presented us with so many awesome disc designs that we just had to put two of them up for this project!
Creative designer Erin Kinnane lives on the East Coast where she currently studies art and design at the University of Massachusetts. You can check out her portfolio to see what she's been working on lately: http://emkinnane.tumblr.com/. Erin is also the founder of Nally Surf© - a fresh new clothing and apparel line born from a love for creativity, and a desire to do good things and make a difference in the world.
