A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Shiro (白) is the Japanese word for "white".
But shiro also makes reference to samurai in Japanese
culture.
Shiro is the word for anything pure, simply
and lovely, but also suggests someone
faithful and with a strong personality.
白Shiro Lamps are lighting fittings
which look easy, light, minimalist
and, of course, white, but hide other more complex and surprising qualities.
白Shiro Lamps start from a careful
consideration on sheet materials searching
for lighter alternatives to molding and
sintering. The process is important: all complements
are designed through a different combination
between traditional and innovative materials
and folding methods, blending crafts and industry,
manual and automatic, art and engineering.
The lamps are designed with generative algorithms but totally hand-folded in Italy, following the ancient Japanese technique of origami.
For our collection we decided to use an hi-tech material, normally used for other purposes, such as building insulation, fireman clothes or bracelets for bottomless drink parties :O
The Tyvek® type 10 is a waterproof, fireproof and tear resistant plastic film that is easy to print, to fold and has a beautiful parchment paper texture.
That means the lamps are 100% safe, recyclable and durable.
We also use a white cotton coated wire for our suspension lamps.
白Shiro suspension lamp is characterized for lightness research, both materic and visual. When the lamp is turned off, the clean appearance and the gentle stretched volume catch the eye, while foldings emphasize the game of shadows on surface. When turned on, the colored pattern glimpses outside.
The main feature of table is essentiality: lamp base becomes the diffusor, allowing wires to pass inside, everything is solved using one material. The particular folding, gives the required stiffness to the lamp, that is therefore very lighweight.

We have been invited to exhibit at XXI International Exposition hosted by Triennale Design Museum, at "SEMPERING", housed at MUDEC - Museo delle Culture in Milan, Italy.
For this very important event we have taken to the extreme the concept of 白Shiro suspension lamp, creating an object with a great impact that can furnish a room without need for other complements. The size of starting sheet was impressive: 90x270 cm (!!!), while the final dimensions of lamp are 80 cm height and 80 cm of diameter.

Risks and challenges
We've been working internationally for more than 8 years in the demanding design industry, we are strong with the whole production process and obsessed by details.
We have done many models to improve quality, avoid imperfections and speed up production. We have carefully choosen the providers we have been dealing in the past 5 years in order to deliver on time and safely the best product possible to our backers.
However, a delay is always possible, for example if colors and material conformity will not fit our standards. If this happens, we will give you regular updates of production process.
