The "Rubio" Project (working title) is a full-length documentary about Long Snapping instructor Chris Rubio and they way he radically changed the long snapping position from being a linebackers side job into a full time, recruitable position.
As a filmmaker, I feel it's my duty not only make an enjoyable film, but to tell a good story and I couldn't tell a better one than the story of Chris Rubio. This feature will help people learn who this "Rubio" character is and how he is such a positive influence on teens and adults. From his Twitter to Facebook, blogs to camps, his personality is infectious in a positive way and this film shows that. Whether you are a sports fan or just love a good story, then this film is a MUST see.
A little bit about Chris Rubio
Chris Rubio was born in San Dimas, California and raised in Covina, California where he attended Charter Oak High School. Rubio went on to play at UCLA as a long Snapper. There he was a three year starter, voted numerous times as Special Teams Player of the Game, and snapped to three All-Americans. After graduating from Ucla with a BA in History, he received his teaching credential from the University of La Verne and went on to teach english and history at Royal Oak Intermediate in Covina. While teaching, he got a call from Chris Sailer, with whom he played with at Ucla, to be his Long Snapping instructor. Rubio made the life changing decision to stop teaching and pursue the world of long snapping.
Here are some photos of Rubio that help give you an idea of what kind of person he is (and what a great smile he has!).
Why do I want to share this story?
I had the rare opportunity to get know Rubio at a very young age. Rubio taught at the middle school me and my older brother attended and we both had him as a teacher (A very fun and memorable experience.) My father also coached freshman football with Rubio for a few years. After seeing he was decent, he convinced my brother to long snap his freshman year. My brother continued to work with Rubio all of high school and received a full scholarship to play at Texas A&M University after his senior year.
As for myself I had no interest in sports growing up but after being convinced by my father to play my freshman year of high school, I kept playing football. About half way through high school I decided to give long snapping a try, so I began taking lessons from Rubio. This was five years after I had him as a teacher and to my surprise, he hadn't changed a bit. He was still the same fun, inspiring, positive teacher I had come to known. After a few years with working with him, I received a full scholarship to the University of Kansas and still to this day, he has left an everlasting impression on me.
I personally feel that there is no one better to tell this story than me. I have witnessed Rubio's rise since I was kid and have even been apart of it. This story is not just for the sports fan but for anyone that enjoys a success story that is entertaining as well, because if you ask anyone that knows Rubio, they can tell you how much of a character he is!
But we need your help!!!

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge of completing this film is traveling. Since I will be following Chris throughout the year I will need to travel with him to a majority of his camps. A significant portion of this funding will go to traveling expenses as well as equipment to help make this the best film possible! This is an independent film so most of the funding for it will come from the money we will receive through Kickstarter and rest of the money will come out of pocket.
I am currently going to school at the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk, Go Jayhawks) studying film so another challenge with this documentary is my class schedule. It is not impossible to make this film but it will take time. I will use my weekends and breaks to research, travel, and of course film so I do expect this to be a lengthy production (Remember this is a FULL - LENGTH documentary so it will require hours and hours of filming and research.) I have been working on this project for about 4 months now and have developed a very thought out plan of attack on how to direct this film. I have been working very closely with Chris to ensure that he (as well as myself) is well represented and to help the film reach its full potential. In order for that to happen I need your help, so please, be apart of something special and help us out right here on Kickstarter.
