Welcome to the World of AWE - Antediluvian Wars: Extermination!

It is the end of the last great ice age, around the year 10,000 B.C. In a distant, not really historically accurate past, four ancient and highly advanced, nowadays however almost forgotten civilizations are waging epic wars on each other. Wars with one goal: Extermination. You are the God of one of these grand civilizations that now lie submerged, buried deep down in the waters of the seas today: Atlantis in the Atlantean Ocean, Hyperborea in the far north of the arctic regions, Lemuria in the Indian Ocean and lastly Mu in the Pacific Ocean. Pick your side and lead your civilization to victory, supreme dominaton and greater glory in the fantastic, prehistoric world of Antediluvian Wars: Extermination.

What is AWE?

AWE Tactical Card Game is an easy-to-pick up yet highly strategic card game for 2 - 4 players, developed by Austrian indie games designer Andreas Propst, creator of Elemental Clash and Biomechanic Dino Battles among others, in cooperation with talented Indonesian artist Widodo Pangarso. 

AWE features amazing gameplay, unique new mechanics and shines with outstanding artwork from an international cast of highly-skilled illustrators.

In its most basic form, AWE is non-customizable and also non-collectible (it will never become a collectible card game, whereas bonus cards and expansions will add deck customization as an option in the future). All you need to play is 1 - 3 friends and a copy of the highly portable AWE - Tactical Card Game. One pack of AWE contains four 30-cards strong, pre-built decks. That means 2 - 4 players can dive into the immersive world of AWE right away, with four well-balanced and unique decks that are playable right out of the box, without having to study all the cards prior to playing in order to build custom decks.

Besides AWE-inspiring illustrations and visuals, AWE - Tactical Card Game features an amazing array of clever, fresh and unique game mechanics and a broad variety of cards in each of the four decks makes every single game of AWE an unique and thrilling gameplay experience. The AWE-some core mechanics will be detailed later on!

What are we aiming for?

In short, this Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign has the prime goal of realizing, mass producing and distributing AWE - Tactical Card Game to as many gamers as possible. On the most basic level, we aim to have approximately 500 copies printed and sent out to people all over the world. 

The game will be realized (printed that is) by our trusted partner The Game Crafter LLC in the United States of America, who will also handle the distribution and fulfillment. So from printing to shipping to the individual backer, all will be handled by one company, which ensures delay-free delivery to you, the backer!

In brief, we are trying to raise the necessary funds for commissioning the missing artwork, printing at least 500 copies and having those shipped to the backers. So the costs are threefold: Art costs, printing costs and shipping fees. 

Know that all surplus funds raised over the course of this campaign will go towards the furthering of the AWE-project, as in funding the production of expansions and new sets of cards and such.

How the game works - AWE-some core mechanics and gameplay:

Here's a brief introduction to how a game of AWE is actually played. For comprehensive game rules click here!

The goal of the game is to overcome your opponents' defenses and "dethrone" their God(s) by means of a direct attack on the God.

Over the course of the game you will be recruiting and sending Units into battle and unleash powerful Events for your benefit or in order to harm the opponent as well as building up your resources required to recruit Units and activate Events with the ultimate goal of breaking through the opponent defenses, their Units and their Guardians, launching a direct attack on their God which would spell defeat for them.

What makes AWE stand out from the mass of similar combat card games is a pleasant and fresh mix of key mechanics. 

  • THE core mechanic in AWE is called the "Three Way Play" concept. Have a look at the below illustration:
  • AWE features an unique resource system: As you can see above, you can use any card in your hand as a Resource, by playing it sideways. Cards played in "Resource Mode" are stacked on top of each other, whereby the topmost Resource card determines the type of Resource the whole stack would provide. There are 4 Resource Types in AWE and each Unit/Event belongs to one.
  • Another central mechanic is the "Wounded/Unwounded" concept, which is explained in the below illustration:

 As you see, AWE has a lot to offer when it comes to mechanics and gameplay. The "Three Way Play" concept in particular provides for lots of strategic options and decisions that actually matter, which leads to exciting games and ensures that no game of AWE is the same but rather a pleasant and unique gaming experience each time you get the cards to the table. Of course the three key concepts showcased above are only part of how AWE works. Please have a look at the full game rules if you are curious about the whole picture!

Besides unique and exciting rules and mechanics, AWE has to offer a lot of eye-candy as well. While Widodo Pangarso from Indonesia is the lead artist,  we will be hiring more artists in order to complete AWE art-wise, once the project was successfully funded. If you want AWE to become a fully customizable card game experience, the "AWE Champion" pledge levels are the right thing for you, as they include the 120 cards-strong (as many cards as are in the AWE base game) bonus cards pack. The bonus cards pack will contain extra copies of all the cards included in the base game so that you will have 3 of each card instead of just 1 - 3 and will allow you to fully customize your decks or build new decks from scratch!

About Us - The AWE-Team:

AWE was conceived when ambitious Indonesian freelance artist Widodo Pangarso approached up-and-coming, young Austrian indie games designer Andreas Propst, both good friends and long-term collaborators, with a bold proposal: Let's make a game together! So each of the dynamic duo provided their expertise and respective skills in various areas to set out and create what we are now able to present you as the AWE-project - an "Austronesian" undertaking so to say, by two creative minds from two very distant corners of the world.

Widodo Pangarso (Indonesia) - Lead artist:

Widodo has worked on many (games) projects by Andreas in the past, the two have become not only long-term partners but indeed friends and he gave the initial spark to ignite the AWE-project. Widodo is our lead artist and toiled night and day to create the fantastic artwork you can see all over this presentation (additional artwork was created up front by Dennis Saputra and Enggar Adirasa - both from Indonesia as well). Once we have the necessary funds, we will hire more artists to realize AWE in a timely manner - Widodo will be coordinating the visuals and have the "last word" when it comes to the art! 

Andreas Propst (Austria) - Lead game designer:

Andreas is a freelance artist, book author and designer of board and card games from rural Upper Austria. He came up with the unique theme as well as rules and mechanics of the AWE Tactical Card Game and will be, with considerbale, year-long experience in the tabletop games sector and crowdfuning campaigns, coordinating the realization of the game starting with this campaign up to the final delivery to you, the backer.

Risks and challenges

Every project like ours naturally faces risks and challenges. In our case, we tried to minimize these risks and such.

Probably the only really unknown factor is how long it will take until the AWE card game is completed art-wise. Once this campaign is over and was successfully funded, we will have the necessary monetary means to do so, we will hire a number of artists who will be creating the missing artwork for the game. How long that will take cannot be clearly determined at this point, however we personally know some reliable and professional illustrators from all over the world who have worked with Andreas on other games before, will create the missing artwork in a timely manner. Our best estimate is that the remainder of the visuals for AWE will be completed in a matter of months after we received the funds from a hopefully successful campaign.

Once all the art is in, we will have the game printed over at The Game Crafter ASAP. The fact that our printing company of trust will also handle all the logistics from printing up to final delivery to the customer, to you, valued backers, will ensure timely distribution of the finished games, so that there will be minimal to no delays from printing to shipping.

In any case we will be providing regular updates after the campaign is over on our progress with the artwork and all else up to the point that you will receive your finished product in the mail!

At this point we would like to apologize to backers outsided the US for the tremendously increased cost of the game. The simple reason for this is that The Game Crafter does not offer any cheaper international shipping options to locations outside of the United States of America. We cannot do anything about this so please accept our humble apologies for any inconvenience caused.
