About this project
What is Medcomic? Why is it here? Do you like Corgis?
The answer to all those questions is a resounding yes. My name is Jorge Muniz, Physician Assistant (PA-C) and self-taught cartoonist, and I'm happy to present the world to an ongoing educational art project of mine, called Medcomic. Let's make it into a book!
Studying medicine can be tedious and difficult. It's hard to remember the vast amounts of information required to pass tests and recertification exams. One of the most frustrating feelings in the world is staring at a question during an exam, and not quite being able to recall the answer. "I just studied this!" you say to yourself, but the details of the memory just aren't clear enough.
Medcomic solves this migraine problem by combining high quality art and humor to make memorizing medical concepts easy and fun. You'll be so entertained it'll feel like you're procrastinating, but you'll actually be gaining and retaining medical knowledge! Medcomic has been adopted by university professors all around the world in an effort to engage students and eliminate classroom cases of SIHB (Sleep Induced Head Bobbing).
Medcomic: The Most Entertaining Way to Study Medicine is volume one in a series of books for students and teachers of medicine, but I need your help to get this project off the ground. It's a privilege and passion of mine to create artwork used as a study tool by tomorrow's physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses. Funding this project will also help launch a revamped website where I'll be posting new artwork. There is a lot of potential to expand medcomic.com in new and exciting ways and infuse innovation into the field of medical education.
The Medcomic book will contain all the artwork I've published online over the last two and a half years, as well as eleven brand new comics made just for the book. New topics covered include deep vein thrombosis, acute pancreatitis, and murmur intensities, to name a few!
I love hearing your input on what topics should be covered, so please send me a message at www.medcomic.com/request.
The medical information in Medcomic is for educational purposes only and should not be used for any diagnostic or treatment purposes.
Risks and challenges
Most of the comics for the book are completed and the risks are very low. The book will be self-published through a major distributor and the Medcomic website will be redesigned and upgraded. There's always a possibility of running into production issues that could delay the book. If that occurs, there will be updates on the status.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
