About this project
Along with offering local artist and artisans a gallery to exhibit and sell their work, a workshop to teach adults and children everything from painting to soap making to building lego metropoli, The Hive is working on putting together a high caliber performance space to offer local musicians, small national acts, theater troops, local film and fashion and the local schools a space to be heard and scene. We have the room. We have the talent. we have the people power to put it all together.
Presently, our performance space is a small room with a capacity of 50 people. The room has a small stage, borrowed lighting and PA and cozy couches, chairs, bars and bar stools scattered about. Over the past months, there has been a huge out pouring of local support to make this project come together. On July 9th, we had a "Grand Opening". Nearly 500 people passed through our doors. For a town the size of Kennebunk, that's impressive. Abouth 45 local artists and musicians came together in the weeks leading to the event to put the space together from demo-ing the original space to building the bars and stage, painting everything in sight and hanging art work on the walls (along with sheets of steel, purple mirrors and home speakers from the 60's). local business's and individuals donated cash, lumber, advertising, tools, hardware, time, beer, you name it.
And the energy is still alive! Since July 9th, we have been approached by numerous people daily about what is next, what's to come, and how they can be involved.
So now we are looking to amp it up, so to speak. To increase the quality of experience each person has, we would like to purchase a PA system and stage lighting along with a house recording system to offer both the audiences and the performers the best experiece the room can create.
