Have a question?
Hi James - there may be some very limited fraying of the shield's copper fabric. Pull out any loose threads and that should be the end of the fraying. I'm glad the KeyClip is working well for you!
I love the fit and finish of the keyclip. It took a little getting used to unlocking my door with my wallet but I'm loving it more and more each time.
My only complaint would be that the copper siding of the rf shield began fraying on the edges just a couple days after receiving the product.
I'm very satisfied with my purchase though. Thank you for all of your hard work.
Hi Rick - Thanks for your feedback! I mailed you a replacement set of screws. In the event that your keys loosen up, please tighten the screws before they fall out. The screws may need periodic tightening, and this is an issue that I'm working on. Stay tuned...
I've lost 2 of the tiny screws and almost a key. I had them tight and not sure how it loosened.
Thanks, Jepz. I'm very pleased to hear "the wait was worth it." Please post again, after you've spent some time using the KeyClip.
Hi. Just received my wallet & key organizer. The wait was worth it! My initial opinion, the quality of the item is exceptional. Thanks.
The Kingston Data Traveler SE9 is recommended for use with the KeyClip.
Very nice, Great job Rich!
Anyone using a USB stick/drive with their wallet? ...care to share which models fit.
Thanks, Jack. Glad to hear that the key rings are getting delivered.
thanks for sending the key ring Rich!
Hi Myles - I'm sorry that you did not purchase what you wanted. Unfortunately, only a very small quantity of the KeyCase was pre-ordered on Kickstarter. Since the demand was so small, I do not offer the KeyCase for sale on my website, so I cannot sell returns.
If you are interested in the KeyClip, it is for sale on my website (Leftfielddesign.net), and I have a few remaining KeyClips that are currently available from this production run.
Hey for some reason I didn't notice that I pledged for just the key case and thought it was for keyclip (didn't notice there were different ones). Any way to return this one and pay for an upgrade? Thanks looks like good quality!
Thanks, Jack and Ryan!
Got mine in the mail today. Good quality materials. Was def worth the revisions.
Cool - The next production run will have a slightly softer radius, where the thumb-slots meet the peripheral edge of the Cover. I'm also considering machining a .5mm beveled edge all around the outside of the Cover, including the thumb slots.
Ah of course the posts...
As far as the edges... I was talking about the backplate (top and bottom with the logo being the bottom) specifically. And as I'm holding it now, the key cutouts as they reach the outer edge are a bit pointy as well. Not enough to puncture but definitely noticeable. The clip also has a bit of an edge but not noticeable.
Thanks very much for your feedback. Even if the center pieces were removable, the KeyClip could not be configured because the key-mounting posts (different lengths) would also require replacement. Could you specify which parts could use a softer edge: the aluminum Cover, the stainless steel spring clip, or both parts?
Got my KeyClip yesterday and already getting compliments, even from a person at the next table in a restaurant! The quality is excellent and it is everything I expected.
There are a couple things I would comment on. First the edges are a bit sharp. I don't think they are sharp enough to cut but you can definitely feel it. I think rounding them would be a nice touch. I have the 6 key option and it would have been nice if instead of those glued(?) center pieces not being removable, being able to change the configurations I think would be an improvement (not that would ever do it).
Anyway I'm very happy I got the KeyClip and I really appreciate the care and time you took to make a really quality product. I think you have a real winner here.
BTW I told the next table where to find you so hopefully you'll get more word of mouth.
Of all the Kickstarter projects I've skimmed over, I'm glad I stopped and backed this one. Just got my KeyClip the other day and I've been loving it. Installing keys was a breeze, the hardest part was getting them off my old key ring! Great feel and size, with just enough weight to let you know it's still in your pocket. I'll be using my KeyClip for a long time to come!
Please send me a personal message with your new address, and I'll update your "ship to" info.
Rich can I change my international postal address?
You are so welcome, Stephen. Thank you for your enthusiasm, support, and patience - for the time it took me to get it right.
FINALLY a Kickstarter project that actually exceeded my expectations. I am absolutely in love with this key/money clip, it has a fantastic feel, heft and just oozes quality. I often find myself flipping it around in my hand using it as a sort of stress reliever it feels so good. As soon as I get the Coin card (hopefully they nail it like this project did), I will have finally minimized my keychain and fat wallet woes. For those who love carrying a money clip, look no further. For everyone else who has wanted to give it a shot, there is no better product on the market. WELL DONE, and THANK YOU!!!
Hey Rich, any comment? I need my address changed please before it ships.
Hey how do I go about changing my address? I ended up moving last week.
Thanks, Nancy :)
Hi, Rich, thanks for the update. I wish all Kickstarter project requirements & communications were as complete as yours! I look forward to receiving the wallet when you think they are ready. The anticipation builds! Though you must be frustrated with the setbacks, your backers appreciate the thoroughness with which you are following through.
Hey Dr. R - Our factory is late in receiving the 301 stainless steel production quantity that will be used to make (what I hope will be) the final spring clip production samples. Those samples should ship out this weekend, and if so, I'll have them early next week. The final Cover samples, in black anodized finish, arrived two days ago and they look great - the edges are nice & smooth to the touch. Will post an update immediately after I've had a chance to evaluate the clip samples. Stay tuned...
Hi Rich, what news
Hi Dr. R - I am now carrying the first very-close-to acceptable sample from China - just arrived Wednesday. The new samples are very close to production-ready, but some minor quality issues remain. I have requested one last round of samples, before I can approve production, so the samples can serve as a "gold standard" for the production product. I'm awaiting the estimated delivery date from our factory in Shenzhen. Please expect an update early next week.
Hi Rich, you said you would receive KeyCase samples on Saturday 22nd. Whats the news?
The KeyClip finish samples were delivered today, and I was able to approve the glass bead-blast finish. Now that the finish is approved, production KeyClip samples are being made and should be delivered next week. In the interim, I expect to receive the KeyCase samples on Saturday. Will keep you posted as the production samples arrive.
@Naeem K - New samples are in transit. The FedEx delivery date is for tomorrow. Soon after I review the latest samples, please expect an update. Thanks for your patience!
I would appreciate if you can update us where we stand. thanks
@ThatisCool - Please check your email for a Backers Only Update.
Chinese New Years is next Friday...any news on the new samples?
Thank you, Nancy. Your positive feedback is very much appreciated. And I can't wait to approve next-article samples for our first production run - hopefully this week...
Thanks for the very thorough & entirely informative update, Rich. I appreciate the "LF versus China" pictures especially. All parts, even the simplest, can present complications, and you've anticipated & responded to the issues at each juncture. Great follow-through.
Can't wait to see the final pieces!
Hi Jack - So far, I have not received first article samples from my manufacturer in Shen Zhen. My manufacturer has sent pictures of first articles that needed refinements in spring-clip pre-load and in the finishes for both clip and cover. I hope to have new pictures in a few days, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the refined parts are up to snuff and I can approve first article sample shipment. After I inspect and approve first article samples, I'll give the go-ahead to commence our first production run. Some updates will follow soon: the first will be a status report that will include pictures of the new samples. Wish I could be more specific about when in February these will ship, but it's looking like the latter part of the month. Thanks for your patience!
Heya Rich, I was wondering if you had any more info as to when in February shipping may start?
@ThatisCool - The first forming tool for the clip/stainless steel part broke and a new tool is successfully forming the parts. We have also been refining the finish of the clip, so it matches the fine satin finish on the prototype samples that I provided to my manufacturer. The Cover parts are "racked" when they are anodized, and the racking deformed the countersunk holes on the initial parts. I hope to have some pictures in the next few days of improved parts. Will post an update as soon as I receive the new pics. We are making good progress, but as with any new product, manufacturing processes need to be dialed in. Thanks for your patience!
Merry Christmas Everyone! How are things going Rich?
Sorry for being too late to comment.
I would like both the 3 and 6 keys optional bolts...
@Jamison- Good idea! Production is moving along. Please expect a mini-update momentarily...
Any update on this product? Haven't heard from you in a month.
@Ryan, I understand your disappointment - I too was planning this as a gift. No one like delays, backers and creators alike. Rich did the right thing -- he was upfront and honest about the delay. Look at the wallet more as an art piece rather than a piece of tech...it won't be obsolete -- it will still hold your keys and cards in a simplistic and elegant manner, that will always be in style!
Just for reference, an academic research paper published in June 2013 by the Univ of Pennsylvania found that 75% of crowd-funding projects miss there "estimated delivery date"...it's just the nature of the beast. http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm…
This isn't a store, Ryan. It's a crowd-funding site. You are not buying a product off the shelf. You are pre-ordering a limited production run of an item that doesn't exist anywhere. There are always hickups in product development. If you do not understand this, then you should not participate in crowd funding. Who said anything about a four month delay? I was very forthcoming about realistically delivering in February, when emailed Update #2. Finding some patience would be appreciated.
I am very disappointed in the 2 month shift in delivery date. That is unacceptable. I backed this project because a) I thought about giving some as Christmas gifts, and b) I was willing to wait a couple months for a good product. By the time I wait 4+ months for your product, it will be obsolete.
