Risks and challenges
This Kickstarter campaign is a great one for Backers because the original Luxe model has been developed, improved, tried and tested.
FaceCradle set all time records for the most backed travel pillow of all time, back in August 2016.
Over 19,000 Backers advised us of their delivery address and we have delivered to every one of them.
During this campaign we were completely surprised with the demand. We were not prepared to make or deliver so many units. Hence, our Backers showed incredible patience and we delivered around 3 months later than our target in some cases. This was no mean feat and we give great thanks to all our suppliers and staff who worked around the clock to deliver.
Our delay due to demand, ran us into the Christmas festive season of 2016. Some Backers missed out on taking their FaceCradles on their holidays or giving them as gifts.
We also were overwhelmed by the number of inquiries, social media questions. The demand for customer service was also way beyond our expectations.
The initial shipments of our original FaceCradle model, whilst we had set a slightly harder specification, we delivered with close to perfect quality.
To date, we have not had one single FaceCradle returned due to any failure during use. Of course some products were damaged by couriers in transit and some were lost and replaced, a normal part of eCommerce.
These experiences also helped us to improve our processes and get it closer to perfect.
It is fair to say, we were not prepared for the demand in our first campaign. This time we are. We have learned our lessons. This does not mean we know about any unexpected hurdles that may come into view later but we are now very good at delivering FaceCradle.
Thanks to our Backers during our first campaign we now have all the necessary resources in place.
We now have a full team of customer service operators, our factory is fully set up and ready to grow.
Now we launch our new 35% smaller and lighter version to compliment our Original model, we now call Luxe.
This campaign is not about developing an idea or even making the product, that aspect was so wonderfully supported by our Backers in our initial campaign.
Since our initial campaign we have built relationships with Distributors in over 20 countries. We are having good success with these partners however they still have resistence from their Retail customers. Where given the opportunity in locations like Airports, FaceCradle has sold well immediately.
Getting the product on shelves in the prime retail locations has not been easy.
This is because retail shelf space is always full. For us to get FaceCradle on retail shelves, another product has to be removed. This is where existing suppliers have strong footholds.
We need to go to our meetings with retailers with additional commitments to make sure everyone knows FaceCradle is in stock when the retailer starts selling. It's one thing to put it on the shelves but another for you all to know it is there. So that is why we are asking for your help, to put these commitments in place.
We need to commit:
Advertising: so everyone know it is in stock.
Promotion:, to show everyone how great FaceCradle works and; Merchandising in stores: to explain to those new to FaceCradle, what its features are and to help them understand the benefits.
If you were a Backer of our first campaign, we thank you so very dearly for your help. For the patience you showed and for your product feedback. We hope you love your FaceCradles and we must say that the most rewarding part for us, is to hear so many stories from people who have been able to receive the gift of sleep with our invention.
For those new to FaceCradle, we would like to say, give it a try, you will see that our focus, is to get you extended hours of sleep in Economy Class.
We want you to have an "Upgrade to Sleeping Class" every time you travel.
