ToneWoodAmp Evolution - From the first prototype
The ToneWoodAmp works with both steel and nylon, electric-acoustic and non-electric acoustic guitars. Please read ahead and check our FAQ at the bottom.
Fall in love with your acoustic guitar all over again.
The ToneWoodAmp - allows for acoustic guitar players to add live effects to their instrument without having to connect to an external amplifier!
“Simply switch on the ToneWoodAmp and start exploring the endless possibilities. Your acoustic guitar will suddenly have a new life. There is nothing else on the market that can make your guitar sound like this without the use of an external amplifier or external effect.” Ofer Webman, creator of the ToneWoodAmp.
How it Works
Welcome to acoustic guitar 2.0. No external amplifier or effects are needed!
The ToneWoodAmp uses a clever combination of powerful DSP (Digital Signal Processor) and Surface Exciter. Attached to the back of your acoustic guitar, the device vibrates the back of your instrument, producing sound effects such as reverb, echo, delay, tremolo and more, which interact with the natural sound of your guitar. The result is a unique soundscape coming from within the body of the guitar itself, while still maintaining the guitar’s natural beauty, original tone, and untethered portability.
What It Sounds Like?
Jake Allen's video demo above is a great example of how it sounds. We also have many videos on our website and Facebook. Here is another simple home recording we made to simulate the player's experience at home. The recording device was ZOOM H2N. Please note that there are two segments on this demo and that the first sample of each segment is always "dry" ( i'm not the best finger picker so please excuse the performance :-). PLEASE USE HEADPHONES OR GOOD QUALITY SPEAKERS.

How To Attach The ToneWoodAmp
The initial installation and setup of the ToneWoodAmp is fast and easy, It requires no tools, and has no permanent impact on your guitar. Once the magnetic rails are installed, detaching and attaching the ToneWoodAmp to the guitar takes just seconds.
We have two methods of install, both use a base of what we call the “magnetic rails”. The first (original) method include a double sided adhesive strip perfectly safe to all Polyurethane finished guitars (This is the most common finish for modern guitars). The second method (Which we just announced on Dec 7th) is an adhesive free alternative, it includes a set of four magnets easily placed inside your guitar. This option is perfect for high-end or vintage nitro based (Nitrocellulose Lacquer) finished guitars
Install type 1: Initial install of the (original) method
Install type 2: (NEW!) Initial install of the adhesive-free method

What We Achieved So Far
The idea of the ToneWoodAmp was born in November, 2012. After many false starts we succeeded to build the first prototype from parts that we cannibalized from other products (...and lots of good products went to trash :-).
We used this prototype for almost a year, trying to figure out what we want the product to do, and having users give us feedback. Very quickly we learned that users really like the idea, and at that point we extended our team and started building the next versions of the ToneWoodAmp prototype.
After a few iterations and enormous effort, we succeeded to build our fully functional prototype, ready for prime time at Summer NAMM 2014 (Nashville TN) where we presented the device to the public for the first time. At the NAMM we also presented the smaller form of our commercial ToneWoodAmp (the one that you will receive, the small guy on the far right ;)
Summer NAMM was a great success (as you can see in some of our videos). We knew that we have a real product that speaks to all musicians.
Since we came back from Nashville we have been focusing on telling you all about the ToneWoodAmp. We have continued traveling the country to meet musicians, with music schools, and also forming great relationships with the biggest music instrument retailers! EVERYBODY LOVES THE TONEWOODAMP!
Now We Need You!
Developing cutting edge technology isn't easy, and it's also very costly/time intensive. With your support, we can finally hit mass production and meet the factory's minimum order quantities.
Current Progress: We already have fully functional versions of the ToneWoodAmp. The overall build is excellent and close to what would be the mass produced product. But before we pack it as a final product we want to make some improvements that will make the ToneWoodAmp even better. These improvements are based on our months of experience with the product, and on feedback we have been receiving from our test users.
Manufacturing Production Plan: A large cash outlay is always required to start production. Plastic molds and high quality components and circuit boards need to be purchased upfront. With your support, we can finalize our designs and start manufacturing.
Larry Mitchell - Grammy Award Winner Producer / Guitarist "It's pretty wild....it's pretty amazing, I love textures, ...it's automatically soothing"
Schylar Shoates - Nashville Music Instructor/Producer and Session Musician "it's messing with my senses"
Jake Allen- Fingerstyle Guitarist and Producer "you can rock with this thing, with an acoustic guitar, it's great"
Pete Pancrazi- Jazz Guitarist/Vocalist/Educator "so nice to have an acoustic guitar and not to have it be so dry"
Shane Baskerville- School of Rock/Music Director "From a songwriters stand point, this would be very cool... It definitely ups the cool factor of the acoustic guitar"
Darren Joy- Guitar Center/Guitar Expert "very interesting, and it doesn't seem to take away the tone from anything"
Ryan Osterman- Singer/Songwriter "This is incredibly impressive, I have never played with anything like it before, it just makes me smile."
From the Press
TreeHugger "when I heard about a device that can add distortion, or reverb, or echo effects to an acoustic instrument, without needing to plug in to an external amp, I didn't believe it until I saw/heard for myself."
GuitarNOIZE "This a very clever product because of the way that it blends the effected sound with the natural sound of an acoustic guitar. I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen a product like this before and hope they get the funding they need from their upcoming Kickstarter campaign as this product definitely deserves to be on the market."
Gizmag "ToneWoodAmp – or Twamp for short – that brings the kind of effects enjoyed by electric guitarists to acoustic pickers without needing to route the instrument through a big power amp".
The natural tones of an acoustic guitar are beautiful, but there are times when adding just a bit of an effect to your sound could spark a whole new level of discovery and performance. The ToneWoodAmp adds extensively to your guitar’s tone and vocabulary, and puts a smile on your face while doing so, you’ll love the revolutionary ToneWoodAmp.

Risks and challenges
One of the biggest challenges is the manufacturing process. Quality control will be at the top of the list, and the most important issue. Our goal is to produce the ToneWoodAmp as much as possible here at home in the US. We have already selected a number of potential manufacturing partners.
We are confident with the selected manufacturing partners. However we are aware some risks remain with the production of the ToneWoodAmp: unforeseen changes in component and production lead times, availability and cost of components. As of now we have made sure that all the critical components are available for us, however any unforeseen events could affect our delivery time.
Shipping and fulfillment has it's own risks as well, but we plan to work only with tested, proven and established fulfillment and shipping vendors to ensure successful and timely delivery of your device.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
