Pebble Stationery Co. was founded by Lois Ho and Joohn Soh from a love of stationery products. We’re a small business, based in Australia, and we believe in learning and creativity. We support people to learn and create new things by designing beautiful, well made products that are easy and enjoyable to use. Our focus is on producing high quality, minimalist stationery at a reasonable price.
After we launched our first product on Kickstarter in November 2018, which we fulfilled successfully one month ahead of schedule, you asked for a larger version of our popular Pocket Tomoe River Notebook. This Kickstarter campaign is to help us to do exactly that – to create the A5 Cahier Tomoe River Notebook.
We have a lot of ideas that we’re hoping – with your support – to bring to life. So when you back our Kickstarter campaign, you’re not just buying some notebooks, you’re helping to bring a stationery company, and our dream, to life.
About the Notebook
This notebook is everything you love about our Pocket Tomoe River Notebook and more!
This notebook was developed from a love of writing, creating, organising and learning. With a highly mobile use case in mind, we typically found other Tomoe River notebooks to be too big and heavy, adding additional bulk which was difficult to carry along with all of the other necessities of a mobile office, or too thin and flimsy – unable to sustain the bumps and bruises a mobile office inflicts on a thin notebook.
Our notebooks have been designed with portability and function in mind. We’ve chosen to use 52 gsm Tomoe River Paper, well known in the fountain pen community for its performance and fountain pen friendliness.
Not only does it behave with fountain pens, its thin so we can add more pages and still keep the size small. At 120 pages, our notebook is thinner than a standard 80 page notebook.
This notebook was born from our Pocket Tomoe River Notebook design. When we fulfilled that campaign - you asked for a larger size. This notebook has been designed with the popular Pocket Tomoe River Notebook as a starting point.
As with our Pocket Tomoe River notebook, we have created and tested a number of prototypes with different use cases and different users and we are now ready to place our production order for our notebooks. This is where we need your help and support with this Kickstarter campaign.
We will be running a very tight campaign. We expect to fulfil our pledges by the end of August, but have left the fulfilment period till September, depending on how the campaign goes. The critical path to achieving this is quality control of the produced item, Kickstarter depositing the funds in a timely manner and collecting backer addresses in time to fulfil by the end of August.
Community involved development
We’re focused on developing products that you will use and love. We want to work with the community to develop products for the community – we’d love to get you involved on the development process! As proof our commitment, this very notebook was created by user request – our customers asked for a larger version of our popular Pocket Tomoe River Notebook and we are only too happy to help!
After our first Kickstarter campaign, we donated 200 pencils to the Shree Annapurna School in Nepal. We will continue our commitment to support learning and creativity across the globe and its important to us to give back to the community and those in need. Once again, we will be work with our friends at Pens for Kids UK to provide pencils to children in need around the world. For each A5 Cahier Tomoe River Notebook sold, we will donate a pencil to be sent to a child in need around the world.

The following is taken from Kickstarter's info page.
Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects. Everything from films, games, and music to art, design, and technology. Kickstarter is full of ambitious, innovative, and imaginative projects that are brought to life through the direct support of others.
Thousands of creative projects are funding on Kickstarter at any given moment. Each project is independently created and crafted by the person behind it. The filmmakers, musicians, artists, and designers you see on Kickstarter have complete control and responsibility over their projects. They spend weeks building their project pages, shooting their videos, and brainstorming what rewards to offer backers. When they're ready, creators launch their project and share it with their community.
Every project creator sets their project's funding goal and deadline. If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers' credit cards are charged when time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing.
Backing a project is more than just giving someone money, it's supporting their dream to create something that they want to see exist in the world.
Risks and challenges
This is our second Kickstarter project. Our first campaign to launch the Pocket Tomoe River notebook was successfully fulfilled 1 month ahead of our predicted schedule. We have done a trial run of the entire production process and we are working with experienced suppliers who have been able to deliver the product to their designated schedules thus far. However, to mitigate any logistical and operational complications for our first campaign, we are limiting our offerings to allow us to deliver our products to customers in a timely manner.
We have had more than 10 years of experience in managing end to end business operations, from production to delivery to customers. Based on our experience, we have identified the following areas as risks and challenges to this project and worked to mitigate the risks.
1) Shipping and Fulfilment – given that our company is comprised of only two people, our ability to fulfil a large number of orders in a short space of time is limited. We will be supported by a fulfilment company to help package and send our notebooks in a timely and effective manner. This will also help us to reduce our shipping costs to you, the customer, due to the larger discounts in shipping costs that is available through a fulfilment partner.
2) Order blow out – our biggest risk is to receive too many orders from the Kickstarter campaign and not be able to source enough materials to supply and deliver notebooks to our backers in a timely manner. Therefore, we have made the decision to cap the total number of rewards that are on offer for this project to prevent any blows outs and ensure that we can fulfil our rewards in a timely manner. We apologise to anyone who may miss out as a result. This is just our way of making sure we can fulfil our promises during this campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
