I was awarded a small grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts which has helped me to travel to northern museums for the research of tribal designs. It is my hope that this research will culminate in a book and a one man show. I am seeking these funds to help defray the costs of a one man show. Each raw gourd is $75.00 for the size I want for these illustrations and carvings. Welburn Farm in California is the only gourd farm producing gourds thick enough to meet my needs. Some of these funds will help pay for me to go to the farm (from CT) and hand pick roughly 30 gourds for this intended purpose. In doing this show I will help to preserve both the visual language of design and symbols, but also the stories of my People.
Risks and challenges
There is always the risk that technical problems will arise with tools or illness will interrupt progress, but I have always finished what I start. I have worked under grants and met deadlines when necessary. Pressure of deadlines is neither new nor a problem. My many years of producing art and working with my current media make me very prepared to carry through on the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
