(Note: As you'll see, some content in the bloopers is fairly dated)
Since the story of Another Man's Gun arose from the Old West legends, letters, and diaries of America's past our Director Jon Gries and myself, writer Derek M. Walker have been so preoccupied chasing money the old fashioned way that we forgot all about the power and potential of Kickstarter!
With careful consideration, we have decided to fund our development and pre-production with YOUR HELP using Kickstarter!! The money we are raising here is probably the most important part of getting any film underway.
We will continue to fight the good fight trying to secure other producers, investors, and distributors, to bring the film to it's completion, however difficult that may be. The funds raised here will go into the further research and development of our production including:
- Final location scouting in CA, NE, and LA.
- Casting our lead actors 'Buck' and 'Edna'.
- Shooting our Winter scenes.
- Shooting our opening scene.
- Filming a sizzle reel.
- Contracting with other actors and professionals.
- E&O Insurance and Equipment.
- Crew and Cast Coordination.
- Wardrobe Designer.
- Set Designer.
- Set Rental and Insurance.
- Rehearsals, Editors, Composers, Cameras, City and State Filming Permits and much, much more!!
For us it would mean that a dream we have had for many years is on the path to becoming true! And we won't be able to do it without you!!
And that is where you come in!!! We believe that you might share our vision and trust us to create this story in the way our instincts and dreams have intended! We are really going to need your help to get us there!
For us the budget, locations, actors and having final cut in the film means everything to us and you can bless us with those things by making your pledge today!!!!
Another Man's Gun is the story of Buck, a young pioneer in the early 1840's living on the Unorganized Territory of what is today Nebraska. Following the death of his father he has no choice but to move into the home of the old land baron Greguson. Along with Theresa, his mother and two little sisters, Cynthia and Julia, they are worked like servants and endure daily abuse by the man and his half-wit son Willie.
The day comes when Buck has the opportunity to provide a better life for his family. He takes a job to retrieve Edna, the new teacher for his bustling frontier town. And he is to fetch her from New Orleans. For this job he'll receive one hundred dollars and he will use that money to buy his own land and build a home where his mother and sisters can live a good life....."that's if that teacher makes it back here alive....."
What makes this journey most incredible is that it is the story of us. The story of me, the story of you. The story of America, of it's spirit and determination. The story of what we do everyday to provide and create a better life for the ones we love.
It's an extreme example of doing what you have to do against all odds in an amazing time and under amazing circumstances!
Note: We are happy to announce that we are Kicking It Forward: We pledge to donate 5% of our funds raised back into other great Kickstarter projects that Jon and I like!! http://kickingitforward.org

Yeah, we're basically set to go! We have so many amazing professionals working on AMG and they can't wait to get started! Overall our production will help employ over 250 people in THREE different states! Jobs that people in those industries rely on.
With your pledge and support we will be able to make our production bigger and utilize the talents of many other fine professionals. Our goal is to make the best possible film, Jon and I are prepared to do it for you!!
Yeah, we are actually! And with your pledge we hope to have a bunch of them!! And we're gonna run them all over the wild plains of the Midwest, chase them through the streets of New Orleans, cross them over rivers and get them lost in the swamp. Poor Buck!...
Yes, you're right! This is a Western! But this isn't some tale of ego or revenge. This is the universal tale of human struggle against all odds......And that gun, the classic Six-Shooter revolver that we knowww you're picturing in your head right now simply wasn't invented yet.
This is the early 1840's and Colt Industries had just designed the first multiple round revolver. But it barely worked! And after going out of business several times Colt finally managed to put a few hundred of these guns into circulation.
Most were used by the Secret Service of the President but about 180 reached the hands of the Texas Navy....and well they sailed on boats so what the heck were they shooting at?!.....so down the line they went and grew in popularity when used to success by a small group of men in Texas called "Rangers".
During his journey Buck encounters one of these men named 'Clew' and together they foil a robbery attempted by our villain 'Black'....and things start to get effin' crazy!!!
So yes, there are guns, flintlocks mostly. And remember!!!! The more we pledges we get the more fantastic guns and action we can have!
Our locations are everything to the look and feel of our picture! The land and the earth that Buck travels through in AMG is almost another character in the film. Jon and I have traveled the route we think Buck took many times (again, last July actually) and it's amazing!
It would mean the world to us to be able to shoot in the locations where we think these events took place. Below are a few locations we have found recently in the amazing state of Nebraska!
What can you do to help our project meet its funding goals?! Take it to the streets! Get online anywhere you can and spread the word!
Send our link to anyone you know who is a fan of Westerns, Adventures, John Ford, John Huston, great movies like Jeremiah Johnson, The African Queen, Fort Apache, The Searchers then let them know they can be a part of film making history!!!
Text 'em, snap chat 'em, facebook 'em, tweet 'em, or pony express 'em, whatever is most convenient! We love you all and appreciate your support! Here goes nothin!

Risks and challenges
There are risks. One risk is we could make the film and it could take a while to secure distribution – "Another Man's Gun" does not have a distributor attached currently. This Kickstarter campaign is for the important development and pre-production of our film and we hope to as well secure the additional funding we need to complete the picture.
We want to make this film without a distributor or financier demanding we adapt it to fit their needs. And we are absolutely confident that this film will be irresistible to distributors and to fans around the world because of the vision you will share and allow us to create!
Our goal is to debut the film at Sundance and then do the usual the film festival circuit. If you fund AMG, we intend to start pre-production right away, (I've already spent four years researching and doing pre-pre-pre-production! So we are ready to go!) we'll shoot this Sept/Oct and finish the film in time to submit it to any festivals.
Rewards like t-shirts and posters will be sent out by a professional fulfillment company and our video diaries, scripts, ect. will be handled by our amazing production assistants. Many elements of the rewards will be fulfilled well before December of 2014, which is when we hope to release the film and have all of our premieres and screenings. For those of you who are attending an event or joining us on set, we will do our best to keep you updated on our schedule.
