The Meeps Are Coming! The Meeps Are Coming!

The Meep toys have arrived on our shores, and we plan to ship them to backers within two weeks via TeeLaunch. Every backer who chose the $125 or higher tier (except for the digital-only $175 tier) will get a toy meep if we have your mailing address. Of course, backers who added on a toy meep will also get one *if* you filled out the survey and gave us your address. If you have moved or did not complete the survey, please send an email to immediately with your current address.
We are working on cleaning up the t-shirt design. T-shirts will probably be mailed separately from the toys, but might be combined if we have them ready in time.

We will have some very exciting news and images coming soon regarding character animation, game art, the trailer, and the playable demo.

Kickstarter Adventures

The Ballads of Reemus 2 was recommended by several backers, and I am personally backing it. This is a point-and-click adventure with an interesting story line, lots of humor, and excellent graphics. The $15,000 CDN goal is very modest because the project creator is covering most of the costs himself. Help him out and support quality graphic adventures.

Larceny is a card game rather than a graphic adventure. I'm supporting it because the author is a fan, it looks like fun, and there is that nice connection with our own Rogue. Creative play in a card game? They might actually pull it off, as this is a storytelling game in which the cards help the players come up with crazy story lines.

Europa 2022 is an adventure game with action elements and a horror/mystery setting.

Late edition (sorry, I missed this in the Comments section) - Neo-Victorian Skirmish Squad.

Rogue to Redemption – Oh, wait, you know about that one. But do come visit us at and contribute to the forums.

By "half of that", I meant "half of a programmer's salary", not half the budget! :-) Just clarifying.

Yes, I will say more about the schedule in an upcoming update. We are far from out of money - We have enough to run through the end of the year before I kick in any of my own. And that's the problem - We had trouble getting the right team together, so the game got off to a slow start. We did not have the right combination of talent at the beginning, and that is just starting to come together now. We have some very exciting partnerships that we will announce soon.

Incidentally, these things (the team size and game development cost) are all relative. I attended a conference last weekend at which one CEO lamented that he no longer knew everyone working for him since the company had grown from 60 people to 130 in the last two years. All 130 of those are on one project! That's typical of professionally-made games these days. We are trying to make a game with that level of production quality, but on a shoestring budget relative to most current games.

(Here's the math - $409K raised leaves $275K for the game development. One full-time programmer makes about one-third of that in a year. Lori and I each took half of that for cost of living, but are going to try to go without pay now until the game is done. But we don't have 4 people on the team, we have 12, all making sacrifices to ensure the game is done well.)

We are 100% committed to Hero-U and will make sure that it is a high-quality game, whatever it takes. When faced with a choice of "ship a mediocre game sooner" or "release a truly great game much later", we will always choose the latter.

@Corey - Actually, over where my pledge is, it shows my response to the survey you sent out having my address there, so we're all good. :)

    4. Jinx on October 3, 2013

Thanks for the reply, though I must say that's quite a delay, and that's just your first estimate, which likely means it'll be delayed again and perhaps once or twice more after that.
Can you please cover what went wrong in your next update? 400k dollars is no small amount, yet from what I've seen in updates you hardly have a team to do it, and now you're talking as if the finances already ran out. That's a tad crazy. What did all the money go towards?

I'd appreciate some sort of disclosure here (or maybe there already was and I just forgot?).

The creatures formerly known as meeps...

Sounds good Mr. Cole. I fully support your descision to not release it until you are pleased with it

    7. Corey Cole 2-time creator on October 2, 2013

@Joshua: If you aren't sure, send another email to and we can verify it.

@Michael/Evolutionary: I'll talk more about release date in later updates (which I also plan to do more often). Our current plan is to release the game 2nd quarter 2014 (between April and June), but we will not let it go out until Lori and I agree that it is outstanding. We are currently financing it with our personal savings and loans in addition to the Kickstarter money. We *will* release Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption, and it will meet our high standards.

    8. Jinx on October 2, 2013

So we're now in October 2013, which is the original launch date of the game. I take it the game will be delayed by quite a bit, but can you please shed some info on how long we can expect to wait before we get to play the game?

    9. David Melanson on October 2, 2013

Hooray! Meeps! know, I never did get an official survey to fill out, but my records show I sent Lori an email with my mailing address back on January 25th (the date may help if you want to track it down...just in case it disappeared into the depths of the infamous folder.) If you need me to send it again, let me know.

    10. The Evolutionary on October 2, 2013

Perhaps this was mentioned somewhere but when is the new release data again?

    11. Joshua Koss on October 2, 2013

Hey Corey! Is there a way to confirm if you have our shipping address? I was having issues with my outgoing mail for a while there, and just want to confirm you guys have my info :)

Meep-meep! (wait, wrong one). ;-) Wouldn't have mind(?gr) if the Meep had been shipped together with the rest. To offset the extra shipping costs to my little corner of the world I'm also inclined to do a small donation but have no idea how much a meep's airfares will cost.

Awesome again! I can't wait for the meep!! Been waiting since the early 90s :P

I put a small donation in to cover the meep's international airfares (

    14. Rinu on October 2, 2013

I look forward to hear the exciting news :).

    15. Corey Cole 2-time creator on October 2, 2013

@Joseph: It depends how many you ordered. :-) Nice video.

@Shaun: Because the Meep toys are squishy and an odd shape, we decided that it didn't make sense to ship them with the game boxes. With the t-shirts, maybe. Besides, we wanted to make sure Meep-level backers have something in time for this Hallowe'en, while the games won't be ready until next Spring.

    16. Cheeseness on October 2, 2013

Woo, can't wait for the playable demo :D

    17. ShaunT on October 2, 2013

Awesome!! I'm in NZ so packaging cost might be quite high. My order package contained some other physical parts which would need to be shipped. I don't mind waiting for everything to be done and shipped together to save the money :)

    18. Joseph Austin on October 2, 2013

So will they be delivered in this manner?…

Never heard of Reemus or Europa. Oh, wait. I'm backing both. You should, too. :3

    20. Corey Cole 2-time creator on October 2, 2013

There are no Meeps in the game. But we are sending Meep toys to people who chose them. The Blue Meep is the mascot of Hero-U. There aren't any actual Meeps in the University though; they're just a fantasy creature, you know.

    21. Oscar Tong on October 2, 2013

That's great! But I thought we weren't calling them Meeps anymore... I'm confused again...
