We are back with our most meticulously made watch yet, a true high-end watch to carry the brand into a new segment. E.C.Andersson Calypso is completely custom-designed in-house and equipped with the most reliable Swiss automatic movement on the market.
Mounted on a tailor-made calf leather strap with custom-made buckle is a sandblasted watch case with polished bevels that harmoniously swirl around the edges from lug to lug, unique modern indices on a radial gradient dial in semi-gloss ocean blue finish, nesting securely under the specially crafted "Bohuslän" arrow hands. The three-tone, one-of-a-kind rotor is displayed proudly thru the sapphire crystal back-plate, powering the Swiss ETA 2824-2 movement. We are so confident in Calypso’s abilities that we set up a Performance Center just to prove the reliability of each individual watch.
Housed in the 40mm diameter case is a radial gradient dial. The color fading from deep to dark ocean blue with a semi-gloss finish. Housed on top are distinctive polished indices, filled with crisp white illumination, glowing ice-blue at night. On the inner end of the indices, a fine bevel reaches down towards the dial, resulting in a sparkling reflection. At 3 o’clock, you’ll find a date window cut in two layers.
It’s easy to miss it, but if you look at the case’s chapter-ring, you will find our signature “Enslinje-Pattern” engraved, framing the dial.
The hands on the Calypso was originally designed for the E.C.A Bohuslän watch, where the skeletonized segment of the minute hand made it possible to view the dive bezel right thru. We liked the distinctive look and decided to save the hands for a future model. Turned out, roughly two years later and with appropriate customizing, the hands made a perfect complement to the Calypso, which marks the first customer-watch with hands like these. Of course, you will find the same B3 “ice-blue” illumination here as well.
We’ve always put our company’s future first, both by constantly learning of ways to improve and by investing in higher quality components and equipment. Finally, it was time for us to go fully Swiss by using the famous high-end work-horse, ETA 2824-2 Top Grade automatic movement.
Movement and Rotor, a two-stage rocket that separates us from the competition.
The movement has been regulated to top-tier accuracy and been equipped with our own, in-house designed rotor, presented in a trilogy of color treatments: rose-gold, stainless steel and chalk white. You will have as much time as you want to study the works of the movement thru the AR-coated sapphire crystal.
Although a totally new design, the case has an iconic look to it. Robust, sporty, yet tastefully classy and perfectly suitable for your any day situations, both in durability and style. Made from sandblasted 316L stainless steel with carefully polished edges that run thru the case like the flow of water.
The E.C.A. Calypso is made pressure proof to 10 atmospheres, 100m water depth, thanks to robust built, solid screw-down crown, and thick sapphire crystal glass on top and bottom of the case.
The link between the lugs is our way to connect your watch to our current and future strap options. It not only looks appealing, the use of a connector link makes the strap sit far more secure than on a conventional watch, thanks to the deep spring bar cut and screw-in bar.
Our own calf-leather straps come standard with your Calypso watch, and you have the option to choose between dark chestnut brown and black, (or both of course!), each having wide-grained alligator texture. The width of the strap is 25mm on top, narrowing down to 20mm on mid to bottom end.
No fake stuffing here - our straps are made flat, mostly because it’s better looking, but also to prevent unnecessary foam stuffing. This makes for a slim and comfortable appearance, measuring 2.8mm, a figure specifically chosen to harmoniously fit the watch’s case.
All straps are equipped with our uni-mold buckle of 316L stainless steel, with a polished base and rugged details below the elevated E.C.A. logo text and solid steel buckle pin.
Solid-link steel bracelet. 316L sandblasted stainless steel base, polished mid-links and beveled sides, with folding deployment clasp. All preparations are made to ensure the steel bracelet is delivered along with your watch.
We wanted to make a strap that can be used for your more rugged activities, where leather might feel best left at home. Go climbing, diving or running with the Nylon Activity Strap without having to think about whether or not your strap can take it – it will. Just rinse that mud of when you get home, and the activity strap will look as new again.
The activity strap is made of nylon just like a traditional NATO, but is delivered as a two-piece strap, just like our other options, and secured by the stainless-steel connector link. To make it more unique, we custom designed the steel loops to fit the watch’s appearance and thickness of the nylon. The loops are cut sharp to create reflecting angles, where the bevels are polished and top surface is brushed.
NEW: We will include the Nylon Activity Strap for all backers!
We care just as much for the watch’s inside as we do for the exterior. Simply, we are not content by the bare knowledge that our watches run correctly, we want detailed numbers of how the watch performs. That’s why we have set up our own performance center, where we measure amplitude, beats error, accuracy, magnetic and pressure resistance in detail. More importantly, we have the tools to perfect those attributes.
When receiving your E.C.Andersson Calypso, there will be a direct transcript print-out from our Timegrapher inside the box. This will show you all detailed facts about accuracy and the well-being of your individual timepiece. Even if you don’t care right now, such information can be both exciting and soothing to have stored. Attached to the transcript is a description of all values, so you can learn more about them.
We would never send a watch that doesn’t perform absolutely perfect.
The packaging is a vital part of the experience, and of course, we designed the box ourselves as well.
Made out of wood, coated in a matte deep-blue finish with silver powder and polished logotype, the box makes a perfect match to the E.C.A Calypso watch. Inside, you’ll find a white leather lining, a pouch for important attachment, such as manual, timegraph transcript and E.C.Andersson Club details. In center, of course, is your watch resting on a leather pillow, attached to a custom made hang-tag.
We aim to be a respected, well-known name in the watch community. That means that everything we do has to be completely over-the-top professional. To us, a custom designed hang-tag dots the I’s and symbolizes that dedication, no matter how silly it may sound.
The Hang-tag is your printed proof that the E.C.A. Calypso watch is protected by three full years of warranty. It also bears the name of our watches origin, Göteborg, where all development, testing and quality assurance is located.
The base color of the tag reflects is sandblasted in deep blue with elevated text of polished finish, exactly reflecting the Calypso dial.
This is an opportunity for you to receive a true high-end watch that will last a lifetime, for a fraction of the price compared to competing brands in the segment, and almost half of our expected listing price. Furthermore, your contribution will help us continue to be one of the few serious independent watch brands out there, and to an exciting future of watchmaking that includes.
Funding goal is set to bare minimum required for production. We have already taken the risk of paying for tooling charges and prototypes, and decided not to add them to your contribution cost.
Our philosophy is simple and can be described in a single sentence:
Creating versatile watches with high quality, developed to endure all challenges, occasions, and environments in your daily life. Raised into a proud tradition of sailing, we strive to create watches that match both the harsh climate out at sea and the more formal, social environment once docked in harbor. A people’s brand, fitting most wallets, without compromising quality. Always mechanical automatic, made of durable materials with a progressive, yet sophisticated design.
Watches made to endure You
The Scandinavian way of design is clean, sophisticated, functional and durable. Northerners simply enjoy products that will last, both in quality and style. E.C.Andersson Watch Co. has embodied the Scandinavian design language, not by studying it, but as a given natural course. Having its head office in Gothenburg, E.C.Andersson Watch Co. is based in the center of Scandinavia, surrounded by the natural beauty of northern climate. The salty ocean winds consistently reminding us of the relentless Northern Sea, pushing its waves up Sweden’s rocky shores, and the breathing pine forests, howling of natural wildlife.
