Hear and Send Texts Through Your Finger
Hear your text messages through your fingertip and simply send a message through a pair of microphones inside ORII.
The Easiest Way To Go Screen Free
Who doesn’t feel like they spend too much time looking at screens? Give your eyes a rest by using ORII. Pairing the ring to your phone lets you send and listen to texts without taking your phone out and looking at the screen. Breaking free from your screen has never felt easier or been more stylish.
Put your phone away while on the go
Built with walkers and texters in mind, ORII’s there when you need to take care of that quick text or call. Just touch your ear to send that short text message or take a quick call.
Clear audio, even when it's noisy
Whether on the subway or in a coffee shop, the audio is crisp and clear. How? Sound gets delivered directly to your inner ear while your fingertip helps to block out background noise.
Live the Secret Agent's Life
Sometimes duty calls. ORII lets you discreetly handle that urgent text message. Audio is sent to your ear by touch, so even in a quiet meeting, you are the only one who can hear the message.
Get the most out of your Siri and Google Assistant
ORII makes your phone’s voice assistant more convenient than ever before by putting it at your fingertip. You’ll find many new ways that your voice assistant can make your daily tasks easier and faster to handle.
How ORII Works
ORII receives audio from your smartphone via a Bluetooth connection. The ring transmits sound vibration through your finger to your fingertip so that when you press your ear, you can hear the voice audio. This technology poses no health risks and used in medical-grade hearing aid devices.
With access to Siri and Google Assistant, the ring can handle many daily tasks all while your phone stays in your bag or pocket. What can your voice assistant can do for you today? Here are just a few commands you can use:
“Call mom at home.”
“Send a text to Stephen.”
"Schedule a meeting with Kayleigh tomorrow at nine AM.”
“Set a reminder for tomorrow.”
Here’s an example of how you use ORII to send a Whatsapp:
Thousands of people have tried ORII. The first time people hear someone’s voice through their finger, it’s unlike anything they’ve tried before. If you’re wondering how it feels on your finger, the vibrations from the ring are gentle and you get used to them within the first day of using ORII.
Watch a 20 second video of people trying ORII for the first time:
ORII is designed specifically for those short texts and phone calls sprinkled throughout your day while you’re on the go. The 1.5 hours of continuous listening time means you can handle many short text messages and calls. ORII doesn’t replace Bluetooth headsets; instead, it uses similar technology to meet a different need. Bluetooth headsets are good for power talkers or when you need to be truly hands-free. ORII is for those brief but frequent calls or texts that you like taking care of while you're on the move.
Sound Quality Test
The magic of bone conduction is that you can hear it loud and clear while others around you can’t hear anything. But many bone conduction products suffer from sound leakage, meaning that people nearby can hear what you can hear through your bone conduction device. This is often because they use large actuators at high power output, and there’s always a trade-off between how much power is used to create audio clarity and the amount of sound leakage generated.
ORII’s focus is on delivering crisp and clear human voice audio. By transmitting audio via the finger, we’ve
1) shortened the distance the audio needs to travel and increased audio quality
2) used a smaller actuator at lower power to minimize sound leakage.
There were two main considerations for product design: firstly, how can we create smart ring that could offer as many ring sizes as possible without needing to re-layout the internal components for every size; secondly, how can we create an timeless, simple, and sophisticated smart ring design that isn’t “jewelry” nor is it too “techie”?

February 2017: Refined modular concepts
To create the final design for ORII, we turned to award winning Italian product designer Andrea Ponti. He has received many international prizes and awards, including first prize at the 2012 LG Mobile Design Competition for a smartphone for the visually impaired; two Red Dot Design Awards in 2015, both designed for Philips in collaboration with Gibson Innovations; two Good Design Awards awarded from Japan in 2016, and the 2017 IF Design Award for the Matrix Powerwatch, an eco-friendly smartwatch that runs exclusively on body heat.

Built for Every Day Life
Designed to meet IPX7 water resistance testing
ORII is splash proof, so you can wash your hands, get caught in the rain, and get sweat on ring without any worries. We don’t recommend showering or swimming with the ring on.
Control who you get ORII notifications from
Choose your favourite apps and select your key contacts and assign them a colour. The LED light will let you know what kind of notification is coming through.
Hot Colours to suit your personal style
ORII’s scratch-proof anodized aluminium finish is now available in four colors: sandblasted silver, metallic dark gray, matte black and the latest unlocked 100k stretch goal: armor red!
Stay charged while you stay moving
A 50 mAh battery that translates to more than twenty short calls and over 200 text messages. Top it up with a compact charging clip.
$200K STRETCH GOAL: 2-in-1 Charging Dock & Case
We’ve also designed a charging dock that looks great on your desk but is also portable and sleek. Throw it in your bag so you can bring it with you wherever you’re. The best part? The charging dock can recharge your ring up to 5 times.
Before shipping begins, we’ll send you a ring sizing gauge with instructions for finding the correct size for you.
We’ve designed ORII in a modular way so that the electronic components are not incorporated into the ring band. This approach is aesthetically please, and allows us to offer rings in sizes 6-11 (U.S. measurements) while controlling manufacturing costs.
Just in case you want to adjust the ring size, you’ll also receive three ring size adjusters along with your ORII. These silicon pads are incorporated into the design aesthetic and let you adjust the ring size up and down one size. We are using durable, allergy proof, high quality silicon.
Ring Size Adjuster Concept 1
We used a “design thinking” approach that focused ways to create screen-free, voice enabled technology. Starting with fundamental research and prototyping, ORII went through many iterations both in technology and in design.
About Origami Labs
ORII is made by Origami Labs, a small team in Hong Kong (with a big army of volunteers) that is passionate about making stylish and screen-free technology for us all. We’re called Origami Labs because the most elegant solutions are born out of simplicity, just like folding a plain piece of paper into a perfectly balanced crane.

Risks and challenges
Creating an audio product worn on the finger has never been done before. ORII’s design requirements are demanding because this combination of electronic components has never been assembled before. The ring also needs to be visually iconic; therefore we also face a challenging self-imposed size and weight restrictions of the product. Furthermore, with the goal to make ORII a daily companion, it must be tested for durability, splash proofing, stress testing, drop testing, etc. to make sure it can stand up under the wear and tear of living on your hand.
The ORII team has been testing, prototyping, and refining the design over the past 18 months. We have partnered with one of the world’s best materials science manufacturers to create the casing, and have brought on Peter P. Lam as Head of Manufacturing, with over 15 years of experience, and Lewis McFadyen, as Head of Product with 16 years of product engineering experience to help us deliver the highest quality ring possible.
Through our prototyping process and by working with our experienced manufacturing partners, we have identified as many potential design issues and roadblocks. However, we want our backers and friends to know that as we finalize ORII designs and move into mass production, the product’s details may evolve. Any changes we make will be done through the lens of delivering the highest quality ring possible. Our commitment is to keep you updated on any and all changes.
We state that shipping will commence in the end of January 2018. This ship date accounts for as many worst case scenarios as possible that we can foresee today, and we are managing closely towards this timeline to get ORII on your hand. However, it is not possible to account for every scenario that we may come across. Our team works closely with all partners to identify and address schedule risks, and we will keep you updated on adjustments to the delivery schedule. At the end of the day, our goal is to deliver the best quality product into your hands that you will love.
