"Sight/Sound" is a collaborative project by Carla Anderson, Bill Harris, and Megan O'Connell, 3 of Detroit's finest artisans. From Carla Anderson's larger body of work entitled "Chosen Silences" Harris selected 10 images that inspired him to write 10 haiku. Ironically, it was the sounds in that the "silent" landscapes evoked that inspired him. The resultant book, in which archival pigment prints will be tipped onto the page, will have the haiku and all text printed in letterpress. This high quality volume is to be produced by Megan O'Connell, Proprietor of Salt & Cedar Letterpress. It is a very labor intensive project, and will be quite costly. We are hopeful that a successful Kickstarter campaign will assist in offsetting these expenses.
Risks and challenges
We are almost ready to "go to press." All of the design issues have been resolved, a paper has been selected, an introductory essay has been written. At this time of this writing my biggest concern is raising the funds. This folio is essentially being done by hand- photographs will have to be tipped onto each page and the text will have to be set up; The costs involved are approximately twice the amount of funding I'm requesting. We hope to raise more than our minimum goal and other funding is being sought. We hope to go to press in the late summer and have the folio ready by early fall. The first rewards will be going out as soon as the funding goal is reached. Those persons receiving a folio will receive it by early 2020.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
