About this project
WHAT IS SIRE FOR HIRE?
Sire for Hire is the animated story of a spoiled little king named Sire who gets fired from his kingdom and exiled. He then hits the road with his only friend, Wizard. Throughout his adventures, Sire will learn how to be a better person and a true leader, allowing him to one day return to his throne and his people.
AND WHO ARE YOU?
Hi! My name is Kevin Hanley. I am a multi-media artist and musician. Last year I accidentally started the meme known as Self Pop Tart. You can learn more about that here. You could also see and hear some of my recent work here.
WHAT ARE YOU UP TO EXACTLY?
My goal is to produce a ten minute animated pilot episode and an accompanying interactive website for children. The episodes and online activities will all be hosted on one site, www.sireforhire.com They will also be available on DVD and USB flash drives. Once established, the interactive site, merchandise, and eventual printed stories will support the creation of more episodes and online adventures.
In order to accomplish this I need to purchase new hardware and license new software for animation and editing, hire voice talent and musicians, hire a background artist, stylist, and one additional animator. The finished pilot will feature more finely detailed characters and backgrounds than the trailer above.
Up until now, many people have worked hours and hours for free on Sire. I would like to be able to pay those folks what they deserve going forward.
HERE'S A SONG FROM EPISODE ONE:
HOW FAR ALONG ARE YOU?
The first episode is written and ready to be storyboarded, animated, and edited. The online games and interactive fun are in development now.
WHY SUPPORT THE MONARCHY?
By supporting this endeavor, you will be directly creating work for both local and regional creative talent. Additionally, all the rewards will be handmade by local craftspeople in conjunction with Sire for Hire. Just imagine it: YOU....a Job Creator! And what could be more appropriate considering the storyline?
This project is the culmination of all my passions: art, writing, humor, music, history, education, and most of all: ADVENTURE! Please help me bring Sire out of his realm and into ours.
Thanks for your support!
PS - Sire wanted me to give you his twitter link. He DEMANDS that you
follow him. (But then, that's the exact kind of behavior that got him
fired in the first place). Anyway, here it is: Sire's Twitterings Oh, and 'Like' Sire for Hire on Facebook!
Risks and challenges
When working on a project of this scope, countless hurdles might arise. Scheduling is very important and the majority of the process is lock-step. I am going to do everything I can to assure everything and everyone that is needed at each step is at the ready. The storyboarding process goes a long way to assure both vision and resources are in line, and on this project I plan to devote a great deal of time to it. One problem that has already reared its head is that of Flash not being viewable on Apple platforms (iPhones and iPads). To this end, I've already started creating the interactive online elements using HTML5, which is the new standard and viewable on ALL devices, desktops, and laptops. I have two decades experience working with artists, musicians, engineers, and directors and all the bumps in the road that come along with a life in the arts. This will definitely be a challenging project, and one of wide scope, but I feel ready to face any challenge that might arise.
