UPDATE: Thank you! As the project comes to an end with only a few hours left, we are up to 65 portraits for the book! The MINIMUM funding was met in the first 48 hours ($700 = about 15 custom paintings in a 10 page book). I am so grateful for all of you!
My name is Shaina Stinard and I am a professional artist from Virginia, now living and working in South Carolina.
This is my second Kickstarter project, and will hopefully be my second book! The dedicated animal rescues I work with, my amazing customers, and my own rescued pets have inspired this project.
I am going to need YOUR help to bring this project to life!
I have rescued a few, painted many, and donated custom paintings of them often to animal rescues.
Some were even featured in my last book, Masterpiece Your Memories. Their stories have been filled with sorrow, hope, joy, and pain. Most importantly, they have all ended with LOVE. Without the amazingly selfless, loving people who rescue, foster, donate to save, and adopt animals around the world, their stories would not end that way...even if it is only their last few weeks or even days of life.
I had no idea when I started painting professionally over three years ago, how many pets I would paint, and how many people would smile because of them. A little secret - rescued animals are always my favorite subjects.
I can't wait to create a book dedicated to rescued pets!
Not sure if you have a rescued pet? If you saved your pet from going to a rescue in the first place, being abandoned, neglected, abused, being put in a "free" ad online, or you found them on the side of the road - they ARE A RESCUED PET! Thank you for giving them a loving home!
Although I can not promise to donate any money from this project to animal rescues because of the rules, I CAN tell you that the success of this project will allow me to DONATE MORE custom paintings to help animals in need. Last year, I was able to give over $2700 in custom artwork to the rescues I work with. I hope to double that this year.
I have 100 days to paint up to 100 rescued pet portraits from your photos in my own unique style. You get help title your painting for the book!
Have a favorite photo of you and your rescued pet? I will paint those too!
I plan to start painting April 1. All painting will be completed in 100 days, which gives me until July 9th.
My Materials: I work exclusively on YUPO paper creating paintings in watercolor or mixed media. You will be getting an ORIGINAL PAINTING, not a print, for your pledge!
Your support, in any way you'd like to give it! Feel free to give me virtual hugs, high-fives, emails, words of encouragement, shares; however, I really need funding to make this happen.
The funding goal is the MINIMUM needed. The more funds - the more paintings for the book! It will just be bigger and better!
No matter the amount raised, here is the breakdown for how it will be spent:
You will be rewarded for your pledge of any amount. Here are a few reward descriptions.
The entire collection of rescued pet portraits from this project will be included in the book.
- the book will be 30-35 pages in length and feature each painting from the collection with titles
- If I have already painted your rescued pet, there will be space in the book for those too and there is a reward for that!
If you would like a softcover copy of the book, add $35 to your pledge (if the book is not already included in your reward or you would like another copy)
I have two different styles to choose from with select sizes! Since a picture is worth a thousand words, take a look at these two black Labs and two Westies to see the difference. Don't worry, I will still describe them both for you.
My mixed media sketches are done in pen and ink with watercolor on YUPO paper. Overall, they have less depth and detail than my full watercolors, therefore take me less time to complete. They are still full of personality and feeling! I am offering these for most rewards since I do have a strict time-frame. Remember, I only have 100 days to possibly paint 100 portraits!
Available in 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 8 x 10, 9 x 12, 11 x 14 - all limited
4 x 6 MINI-PORTRAIT EXAMPLES
5 x 7 and 8 x 10 EXAMPLES
9 x 12 EXAMPLE
My full watercolor painting are done in watercolor on YUPO paper. They have more depth, detail, and color intensity than my sketches.
Available in 8 x 10, 9 x 12, 11 x 14, and 12 x 16 - all limited
Scroll up the page, and on the right side you'll see a button that says "BACK THIS PROJECT". Click it, and follow the instructions. You will need to set up a Kickstarter and Amazon account if you don't have them already. It only takes a second! Charges will not go through until the end of the project, if it is a success.
There are various ways to back this project and ANY amount helps!
Donate as little or as much as you want. Just know that the more you donate, the more awesome rewards you will get for your kindness and support!
Like all Kickstarter projects, if I don't reach my goal, the project doesn't happen. No one gets charged and I don't get to paint any beautiful rescued pets. So, let's make sure it DOES happen!
Thank you so much in advance!
To those who have already let me paint their lives and everything in it that matters, thank you.
I am honored that you trust me this much.

What people are saying about my art:
"Just received the most beautiful gift of your art work to mark the 5th anniversary of my daughter's passing. I'm blown away by your ability to capture a moment in time that has a lot of happy memories for us. It will be a treasured piece in my home. Thank you!"
- Lysa D.
"Shaina has such amazing talent! She is capable of transforming a photo into a precious work of art to cherish. You can tell that a lot of heart goes into her work, and she is a pleasure to speak with. The pet portrait we received recently is a beautiful and detailed remembrance. Our whole family appreciates Shaina!"
- Amanda M.
"Miss Shaina caught the very soul in one of my favorite images of my rescue dog, Lua. Her use of light and color mesmerized me the first time I looked at her art, and I knew I had to contact her. I sent her two images and she chose the one I actually loved the best. When I saw the piece it took my breath away. I can't wait to see what she does next."
"Words can not begin to express the exceptional memories captured by Shaina! I have the pleasure of having several paintings and plans for at least a couple more! She hears the story behind the picture and puts that love into her work. She takes to heart your honest opinions and delivers on ultimate satisfaction!Great work Shaina, and congrats on making dreams come true!!!
- Kim P.
"Something happens to your heart, mind and soul when you see your photo(s) transformed into a magnificent painting. Shaina Stinard has this amazing gift of creating treasured memories with every brush stroke! I don't know of a more passionate and dedicated artist than Shaina! Photographs of her completed masterpieces do not capture the unique details, colors, and textures, which is why owning an original piece is so essential!"

Risks and challenges
Like all Kickstarter projects, if I don't reach my goal, the project doesn't happen - no one gets charged, and I don't get to paint any beautiful rescued pets. So, let's make sure it DOES happen!
Once the project is funded, I will communicate with each backer throughout the duration of the project by email. I will also be posting updates here and on my blog often! Please make sure you check your email for Kickstarter Alerts, including project updates, once you become a backer.
I plan to begin painting on April 1 and all paintings will be completed by July 9th. Original paintings will be done in the order in which the backers fund the project, send me reference photos, AND complete the survey. I WILL NOT SHIP YOUR PAINTING UNTIL THE SURVEY IS COMPLETE and I have all information I need from you for the book.
The time frame for the actual painting is pretty much in the title of the project. I have given myself 100 days to complete EVERY painting for the project. If there are 100 paintings, then I will need to do a painting a day! I made most of the rewards smaller mixed media sketches so this is possible. As for the book, now that I have had practice publishing an art book, I can estimate this one to take me about 2-3 weeks after all paintings are complete.
-Collection of photos and surveys. Please get your photos to me in a timely manner! Know that I will honor all painting rewards no matter when you get me the reference photo, however I will have a strict DEADLINE if your painting is to be included in the book. *All photos subject to artist approval*
APRIL - JUNE:
- I will begin painting in the order of received reference photos from backers
- postcards and magnets will be mailed out
-Paintings will be shipped as completed if I have all info I need from you
-The paintings should all be complete by July 9th.
- I will begin working with Blurb.com to create and print the book. I have used them before and have had a wonderful experience. Since this book will be much less involved than my last, I foresee it going very quickly. It should take me about 2-3 weeks or less to complete!
- The eBook link will be sent to all backers who pledged for it and the soft and hardcover books will be signed and shipped. They will also be available to purchase through Blurb.com.(and possibly Amazon.com at a later date)
- If you pledged for a signed hard or softcover copy of the book, those will be mailed out!
I can't wait to see it come together!
The pace of the project will also depend largely on how quickly backers send me reference photos for the paintings. The faster you move, the faster I move!
*IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AT ALL please just message me through Kickstarter, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or message me through Facebook! There is also a Q&A section at the bottom of the project where I answer some common question.*
RISKS AND CHALLENGES:
If the project is an overwhelming success and I have 100 portraits to complete in 100 days, it will be challenging, but I am up to it! My record right now is 26 paintings in a month while being a full time mom. The LO will still be in school a few hours a day through the bulk of the painting, which helps. Another 6-7 paintings a month should not be too dramatic, especially if they are smaller sketches. I am not worried ;) I like to stay busy!
