Welcome to my Kickstarter Campaign, and thank you for stopping by!
VAGABONDE is a collection of about 18 French songs, my own, those by friends, and some classic French and Americain cover songs, all of which are in some way "francophone." I love these songs and I'm excited about this project but I need your help.
Recording the songs at the Boohatch in Ada, Oklahoma, under the direction of Mike McClure, we're just about a quarter of the way through the production and I've run out of money.
Up until now and over the past 13 years, I've released five studio albums--- all funded with my own money.
My last album, All Fall Down (produced under the direction of Lloyd Maines), was released three years ago. I scrimped and saved its cost of about $25,000 by working and playing gigs.
I work hard, and I appreciate and am grateful for the help from all of my friends along this musical journey. I spend most of my time writing songs, playing music, booking, driving, hauling equipment, running sound, recording, and doing all of the odds and ends in managing a musical occupation. But I'd like to focus more time and energy now on realizing the production of this album, Vagabonde.
Why an album of French songs?
I had the great good fortune of living and working in Clermont-Ferrand, France for two years. I love the beautiful French language, country, and culture, love these songs and I want them to be heard. And then, in the strange world of supernatural synchronicity and in the midst of starting this project, I received an invitation to perform some songs in France at the Amiens International Film Festival in November.... It's funny how one thing leads to another....And I want more of that goodness, and I want you to come too!
A lot goes into making and releasing a record.
There's the time and energy it takes just to write the songs; and then there's recording, mixing, mastering, licensing, photography, design, manufacturing, duplicating, and promoting-- not to mention all of the fine work from the musicians making the music.
In October, Tom Skinner, Stephen Rickey Lee and I spent two days in the Boohatch with McClure. But there's still much work to be done. With two more dates scheduled in December, and more to come in the New Year, the project is taking shape.
I so hope you'll decide to be a part of this. There are fun incentives and some cool rewards offered in exchange for your donations-- from the finished album and a special thank you to songwriting sessions, house concerts, cookies, souvenirs, posters, t-shirts, stickers, a demo of songs from the vault and more.
Risks and challenges
All or Nothing....
Estimating this album to cost about $22,000 to make, I'm asking for half of that: $11,000.
But Kickstarter is an all or nothing deal. So if you donate and we don't reach that goal, you get your money back.
If we make more than the amount of our goal, that's more than good!
And if we do reach our goal-- Kickstarter takes 5% and Amazon (through whom donations are processed) also takes 5% for processing fees.
It seems fair to me.
And I think you'll be happy with your rewards, and hope you'll find that this exchange is fair and cool, too.
Thank you so much for visiting this site. Thank you so much for your continued love and support. We cannot do this without you and your patronage!
Much Love and All the Best!
