Hi, Connie! Thanks for the question! The nubs are meant to be at the very outside edges of the base panels. That will give the largest base of stability. I'm guessing that the nub got shifted during packaging or shipping. If the adhesive doesn't work when you move the nub to the very edge, send us an email at and we'll be happy to send you some more.

    2. connie tran on

i just noticed how my stand is a little wobbly possibly because one of the nubs is glued onto one of the sheets about an inch away from the edge. is this what it's supposed to be, or is this a defect in my stand?

I had also to go to the German customs. The just wanted the additional added value tax of around 8€...

      However, the standstand is great!
I love it! The biggest size also fire perfect for me!

Just one minor point: the pins for putting the stand together were falling out when I opened the package. I had to glue them in and now its working!

All the best for your project! :-D

Hi, Kieran! I'm sorry your StandStand hasn't arrived yet! Please get in touch with Lindsay (, who can help track your package.

I'm still yet to receive my StandStand and the tracking information provided shows no updates since the day it was scanned to be shipped (Dec 23rd) - it's as if it just got lost somewhere and never actually shipped!

Any idea what's going on? And is there an email to contact you guys moving forward?

    6. Luke Leafgren 3-time creator on

Hi, Terry: We're very sorry to hear about the inconvenience and extra cost of this customs situation. I hope it will be resolved as quickly as possible. If it's easier for you to reject the package and have us ship it to your brother, we'd be happy to do that. All the best, Luke

I bought this because I like the design and you're also a translator. Just wanted to mention for future reference that the Standstand is stuck in customs in Germany because it doesn't have the proper papers. I guess I should have said it was a gift. I was asked to produce a copy of the paypal payment in lieu of an invoice. For me, this means a second trip by taxi (€25-30) to the hard-to-reach (of course) customs office to try to get it before work and before it is sent back; so that's twice the price. If it gets sent back, please send it to my brother, who lives in western Mass. I'll send you the address if I don't get the stand out of customs. Best wishes

Hi Stefan: I'm very sorry, but it looks like there was a sheet of a dozen shipping labels, including yours, that didn't get printed and sent. We'll get your StandStand in the mail tomorrow or Tuesday and email you the tracking number. I apologize for the delay, and I appreciate your getting in touch!

If anyone else hasn't received their StandStand or needs a tracking number, please let us know! Lindsay is handling the shipping records, and you can contact her at

      Hi Luke,
can you please give me a tracking number as I have not got any info about my StandStand
      Thanks alot

    10. Luke Leafgren 3-time creator on

Hi, Rob! Thanks for your patience with the international shipment, and I'm sorry two of the feet went missing along the way! We'll put a full set of four in the mail for you right away (in case removing the remaining two feet is the easiest way to start using your StandStand). When the feet arrive, put them on the very ends of the base pieces in order to obtain maximum stability.

    11. Rob Cowie on

Got my StandStand at work today. Great stuff, perfect height for me. One small problem though... one side is missing both of the small rubber feet which makes it slightly unsteady. Any chance you can post a couple out to me? Cheers and Happy New Year.

I received my StandStand on the 23rd and just had a chance to use it on my first post-vacation teleworking day. I liked it! Mine is very stable and well-built. I'm 5'4", and using the 9" StandStand, the keyboard of my laptop is at the perfect height. It's true that the screen is a little too low, but the keyboard is too low when I'm, I'm sitting. This gives me convenient encouragement to switch between sitting and standing throughout the day, and I thank you for it!

    13. Luke Leafgren 3-time creator on

Hi, Stephen! Not everyone received an automatic notification since we didn't manage to check the necessary box when printing all the labels. Your tracking number is LJ674611669US, which you can check at If the package doesn't arrive, do let us know.

If anyone else's StandStand hasn't arrived and you didn't receive a tracking number, feel free to get in touch with Lindsay (

I just got my standstand! it's beautiful and have a great texture to it. But I'm taller than I thought I am :S Hope there's a discount if I get a second one.

    16. Luke Leafgren 3-time creator on

Thanks, Ryan, and thanks for letting us know about the missing foot! We'll get some more of those feet in the mail for you as soon as we can (hopefully today). When it arrives, be sure to put it on the very edge of the base piece to keep the trapezoid formed by the feet as large as possible.

My StandStand was waiting at the front door when I came home today. It's a marvelous little piece of engineering and the perfect height. The only downside is that one of the little rubber feet was missing, so it was a little wobbly until I folded a notecard several times and slid it under the shorter leg. Any chance I could get a replacement rubber foot sent out? No rush, as the notecard works fine for now.

I just posted an update, Lenise, about the 250 that remain to be shipped on Monday and Tuesday. We worked really hard to meet today's deadline, and we apologize for missing it on these StandStands.

Thanks, Virginia, BJ, Dawn, and Brianna for the updates about your StandStands arriving! We are excited to hear how people are using it. (First Twitter photo @GetStandStand taken at Starbucks wins my eternal gratitude!)

I ordered a stand as a Christmas gift for my husband. It came in late last week - packaging and product look great! Anxious to see how he likes it.

    22. BJ Van Gundy on

Haven't had much chance to use mine yet... but I'm deciding whether to brave having folks stare because I use it at Starbucks (where I do quite a bit of my work since I'm an independant management consultant). If I do I'll make sure to provide a picture and let you know how goofy people think I am.

I am trying out my StandStand, which was delivered on Sunday (!) by USPS, and like it a lot. I have a 17" laptop, so if I'm typing a lot quickly, there's a little bit of "wiggle" but not enough to be concerned; the laptop seems secure on the StandStand. I know you recommended the 9" for people up to 5'8", but I'm only 5'4" and find the 12" very comfortable for my work. Perhaps I'm not following the best ergonomic guidelines, but I am standing up straight, and my eyes are in line with the top quarter of my screen. My elbows are below the laptop so my hands are reaching up a bit. However, if I had the 9" StandStand, I would have to look down at my screen giving me a pain in the neck, even though my arms/hands would be even with the laptop. I agree with your advice that users should test what height is best for them by using a pile of books with their laptop on top. Great product - thanks!

    25. Mary-Jo Apigo on

Is it possible to change the shipping address provided on the survey?

    26. Luke Leafgren 3-time creator on

Thanks for getting in touch, Tim and Lenise! Check our updates section for progress on shipping. Regarding tracking numbers, if you provided an email address, you'll get a confirmation email from USPS (with tracking number, I believe) when they pick up and scan your package at the shop in Superior.

    30. Ben Williams on

Just to chime in with Julie - I'd also like to be notified when my StandStand ships. I supplied my email address via your 21 Oct survey. Thanks!

    31. Luke Leafgren 3-time creator on

Great question, Julie! After a bit of research, it looks like we can have USPS send a notification to the email address of backers who provided one. (This won't include the first 100 labels we have already printed.) Lindsay is flying to Wisconsin tomorrow to take charge of the shipping, and we'll post regular updates starting on Tuesday about our progress.

Thanks, David! I'm so glad you like the StandStands. We are also relying on feedback from our first backers for ideas on how to improve StandStand and what variations would be most useful. Thanks again for your support!

    34. David Vibbert on

I received my StandStands and started using them this week. I really like them. They are well constructed and look great. My 17" laptop is a little unstable if I use only one but is rock solid if I use both. I hope StandStand comes out with a slightly wider product for larger laptops. Good job on the Kickstarter.

    35. Luke Leafgren 3-time creator on

      Thanks, Jamie, Marco, and Justin!

Anne, regarding the height, our recommendations are the 9" for up to 5'8", the 12" for 5'8" to 6', and the 14" for over 6'. You can make a stacks of books at that heights on your desk and set your laptop on them to get a good sense of the options.

Colin, we'll email the template files as soon as Kickstarter and Amazon send us the payments. They say that will happen within two weeks.

Margaret, you can pre-order additional birch and bamboo StandStands with the varnish finish at our website ( We'll ship those after the Kickstarter rewards go out, but by January 5 at the latest, maybe much earlier if our Kickstarter production is ahead of schedule.

Erika, can't wait to get you a StandStand! I'm really excited about how this idea might help a lot of people in different ways.

I recently had a baby and am suffering from coccydynia so can't wait to receive my StandStand. Really fancied the bamboo model but they sold out while I was in labour ;) Really happy this was funded and I look forward to pain-free working soon!

      William Alba on

Thanks for the information. I've increased my pledge accordingly. Looking forward to the StandStand!

    43. Luke Leafgren 3-time creator on

The varnish is the most durable finish in general, but both finishes and both materials should handle the computer heat well, William. To avoid VOCs, it's important to let the finish cure/harden fully before any heat is applied, but that process should be complete by the time your StandStand arrives.

    44. Missing avatar

      William Alba on

Thanks for answering my earlier questions, Luke. Here's another -- my laptop sometimes runs quite hot. At high temperatures, materials can warp, and finishes can blister or emit VOCs. To minimize these issues would you recommend: birch or bamboo; Danish oil finish or premium varnish?

    45. Luke Leafgren 3-time creator on

Thanks for your support, Jill! For a total of five birch StandStands, keep your reward level at the birch model with varnish, but use "Manage My Pledge" to multiply the cost for one (including $10 for international shipping) by five: 5 x ($65 + $10) = $375. (Since shipping is quite expensive, we need to ask $10 for each StandStand shipped overseas.) Thanks again!

    46. Missing avatar

      Jill Holmes on

I've ordered one varnished model at the $65 level (with an additional $10 for shipping to Canada). I would like to add four more stands to my order, but can't see how to do this, and would it still be an extra $10 shipping for each unit?
      Thanks, Jill

    47. Luke Leafgren 3-time creator on

Thanks for the question, Jonette: yes, for the early bird bamboo special with varnish, add $9 to your pledge and keep the same reward level.

    48. Jonette on

To clarify your response to James,
      To get the varnish finish If you pledged for the early bird Birch special, add $15 to your pledge (for a total of $55);
To get the varnish finish If you pledged for the early bird Bamboo special, add $9 to your pledge (for a total of $89)?

    49. Luke Leafgren 3-time creator on

      Thanks for both questions, William!

The birch and bamboo StandStands will be made at the same thickness, 3/8" per panel. But you are right that the photos show a thicker birch plywood (3/8") relative to the thinner bamboo plywood (1/4"). My first bamboo prototypes were thinner, in part because 3/8" bamboo plywood required a longer lead time to order than 1/4", and in part with the hope that we could achieve the stability we wanted with thinner and lighter panels. In the end, we decided to stick with the 3/8" birch and bamboo for the extra stability, though we hope to continue experimenting with this in the future.

Despite being a generally less dense material, the 3/8" bamboo plywood we tested ends up being a touch heavier heavier (about 5%) than the birch plywood. I'm not sure why that is.

If you would like to receive the PDF and vector file templates, simply add $25 to your pledge. The backer survey will allow you to specify whether the $25 is for the mug or the templates.
