About Endless Trials

As MMO enthusiasts, we know what gets us excited about a new game. At the same time, we know where tedium starts to rears its ugly head. We all love a good challenge, something fun, something that pushes us and affords us a sense of accomplishment. The leveling and grinding part of the game, however, that is where boredom can creep in. 

With that in mind, we have set out to create a new, semi-hardcore sci-fi MMO that focuses on endgame content. We are calling it Endless Trials, and it is our attempt at making raiding great again! 

Each new character will follow a brief introduction quest, and when we say “brief” we mean exactly that: it will take just an hour to finish. From there, you get some basic gear and get in on the real action, battling dungeons with your friends, completing daily quests for rep and rewards, farming for crafting materials, and hanging around the space station with other players. 

This is a game in which leveling plays a minimal role. The key here is excitement. We want Endless Trials to feel fresh every time you play, not like a job that you are doing half the time just to get to the real fun!

What We Need & What You Get

Right now, we have come to you, Kickstarter, for help raising funding, so we can complete development on Endless Trials and then publish and market our game to players all around the world. We want this to be an MMO that stands out, so we need to do it right. 

As a thank-you to everyone who makes our project possible, we are offering some exciting rewards, including early access to the game and a giftbag with consumables and other cool stuff.

Business Plan

The game will be "free to play" at launch, as we plan to continue development funded by an in-game shop that will serve as a storefront for various items. 

None of these items will affect gameplay, in terms of “pay to win”, and will only serve as cosmetic improvements, boosts, mounts, character slots, and other related items that do not affect the user experience or create an unbalanced game.

We aim to launch in Q3 or Q4 of 2019.

We believe that players should have a say in what an expansion brings, and therefore, we will design a voting system for the players to decide what they want in coming expansion packs and DLCs.

By default, each expansion will include the following:

  • 1 New Raid 
  • Crafting Recipes

Players can then also vote for one of the following additional features:

  • Scientific Expansion: Explore new worlds in hopes of new technologies.
  • Frontier Expansion: Explore new worlds in hopes of creating new alliances or finding new enemies.
  • Exploration Expansion: Expand the reach of the Alpha Station and search for new constellations.

Classes

Currently, there will be 8 player-classes available at launch: Bounty hunter, Engineer, Marine, Explorer, Scientist, Combat Medic, Hacker and Junker.

Each class has their own role to play in a party, and are divided into one of the following roles: Tank, Healer or Utility class.

Content

At launch, we aim to deliver 4 dungeons, 2 raids, and 1-2 world bosses, along with several zones for daily missions and crafting materials. Initially, there will be 4 enemy factions, which users will encounter throughout the content.

Raids will offer extremely rare artifact items that are limited to only a few throughout the entire game! These items will grant the user with immense powers, and bring along glory for the lucky guilds. To ensure that these items are always in play, there will be certain requirements for play-time per month to keep them. If the player holding an artifact isn’t active, they will be destroyed from their inventory and will once again, become eligible for drop. Each player will be able to see who has these items, and which items have still yet to be found.

To ensure a balanced raid experience, there will be a maximum number of permitted artifacts in play in a given raid instance. So, guilds and players need to decide which artifacts to bring along in a given raid, if a guild should be lucky enough to have several players with artifacts.

Player hubs are space stations connected to each other with the ability for users to utilize an instant teleportation feature. From each station, players can access vendors, pickup quests, and zone down to planets for questing and the gathering of materials.

At the main hub, “Alpha Station,” players have a personal quarters where the robot, “S-7 A.U,” can assist players with crafting and other related tasks.

Developmental State

The game is still very much in the development phase, where the majority of focus is currently on game and user interface logic. As of today, we are working hard to ensure that all of the core features are in place for players to enjoy their gaming experience, and to support the coming content implementation phase.

There is a fully functional server with a persistent world running in a local test environment, and on Microsoft Azure.

Our programming focus, is currently on implementing user interface features with dummy graphics, while waiting for final designs. Soon, our programming will focus on making dungeon and raid encounter logic for the endgame content.

Graphics for the main player hub, “Alpha Station,” are fully completed and ready to be implemented with vendors and all additional features. In addition, graphics for one zone are ready to be implemented, with an additional zone currently near completion. Soon, our graphics focus will transition into making final graphics for the core user interface, before starting on tile sets for dungeons and raids.

Risks and challenges

The MMO genre is a competitive one, and its players are not easily sold on new ideas. Still, we believe that what we are doing with Endless Trials is novel enough to attract enough attention to make this game viable. Should any delays come up between the end of our crowdfunding campaign and the launch date, we will keep everyone apprised and informed!
