Frequently Asked Questions
ERNIT is the piggy bank reinvented. In stead of coins and bills, light displays the status of your goals, set in the ERNIT app. ERNIT consists of a physical piggy bank and an app that both are connected to the internet.Last updated:
The idea surfaced on a new years eve almost 3 years ago, where Mads, Søren and Thomas talked about the children Søren and Thomas was about to have respectively, and how it would be impossible to give them pocket money when none of us ever carried cash. So that night we decided to create a physical piggy bank, where real money and goals were visualized with light - all handled by an app.Last updated:
Yes. The ERNIT pig has a curly tail attached to it, meant to be plugged into a USB power outlet, but it can run on its batteries as well.Last updated:

Yes. The first available language will be English, but we are building the app to hold multiple languages, which will be added continually.Last updated:
These are the four ways you can use ERNIT - with or without real money:
1 PLAY WITHOUT REAL MONEY:
Your child sets a goal and you send amounts to their ERNIT piggy bank. You decide if you tell them that it is actually without real money, but be sure to have the money ready once they reach their goal - otherwise the real learning experience is lost.
2. CREATE AN ACCOUNT:
When you download the app you create an account in the ERNIT app. This secure account holds your child’s personal savings and is created with our financial partner – ERNIT as a company actually never holds them. We do not earn money on banking. Once the account is created you can transfer funds with a bank transfer or a creditcard.
3. USE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT:
If your bank is compatible with ERNIT you can create an account in your normal bank and ERNIT will read the balance. No money ever leaves your own bank’s system.
4. TRANSFER BITCOINS
If you are into bitcoins and you already have a wallet there is also a solution for you. In the app you can either connect your existing wallet or use the wallet created for you in your personal ERNIT account. ERNIT as a company never holds your bitcoins. Your personal ERNIT wallet is hosted our financial partner.Last updated:
These are the primary things we need help to accomplish:
- Further development of our app's wallet/bank integration APIs
- Adding more features into the app
- Purchasing the injection molds that will provide us with high-quality parts needed to deliver a consumer-grade product
- Getting the production of ERNIT units going in additional colors
- Letting us do one more beta testing of the whole system with up to 25 familiesLast updated:
The developers are currently working on finishing the version 0.9 of the app, which then will go into initial testing together with our latest prototype pigs. While these tests are being made, we initiate the actual release builds, which we expect to include an integration with a wallet partner (name will be revealed October 14) as well as the option of integrating your own wallet.Last updated:
No, ERNIT is not making any money on your money transfers.Last updated:
