Berlin, poor but sexy, is everyone's favorite city. These essays in list form offer an insider's perspective and lots of hot tips.
THE BERLIN BOOK OF LISTS, a bold and exciting attempt to make everyone's favorite world city more accessible to all, will only come into being with your help. It takes a lot of leg work to scout out fresh spots in every corner of Berlin and verify information, even if you have lived in the city for many years and are out and about constantly. Author Max Hofstetter and the whole Brandenburg Books team are hard at work in pulling together the first forty categories for the book, each an essay on some aspect of Berlin in the form of an impressionistic, anything-but-objective riff on five examples of the best beer in town or the top five parts of Berlin to avoid or some other theme still being developed.
Think of THE BERLIN BOOK OF LISTS as a friendly companion as you walk through the city everyone wants to visit - or even as you look ahead to a Berlin visit. The idea is not to be comprehensive in the manner of a typical guidebook. Pick up one of those, too, for all the basic information that can get so boring and for basic orientation. Then, once you're ready, delve into the kind of tips that can really take your visit to the next level.
Here is an excerpt from the essay-as-list entitled BEST FIVE PLACES TO SAMPLE BERLIN’S VIBRANT GRAFFITI SCENE
"If you were going to pick just one street to take in all of your graffiti in Berlin, it would be hard to choose a better one than Rigaerstraße. Located just a few blocks away from the bland collection of generic bars and cafés that is Simon-Dach-Straße, the last bastion of Berlin’s once formidable “alternative residential projects” (squats) is northern Friedrichshain. Currently a battleground between punks and yuppies, graffiti has become the lingua franca in an increasingly nasty turf war that has since moved beyond generalities and statements of independence to literal threats."

Now is the time to come visit Berlin, while it still has its rowdy, affordable, anything-goes aura, and now is the time for a project to help make the city and its pleasures accessible to visitors who don't happen to have Berlin-based friends to fill them in.
Please help us make this project possible. If it gets funded, we will use the money to:
- complete the research and writing on the book.
- pay for a final round of editing and fact-checking
- develop the website further to include photos and videos and a steady diet of fresh content, including updates and, in months to come, new lists
- publish THE BERLIN BOOK OF LISTS as an e-book
- send out rewards to all of you kind enough to support us
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
