Wordcrafter is a unique card game for 2-6 players. It plays in 15-30 minutes. The game consists of three rounds that get progressively more difficult. Great for family game night, adult game night and retirement home game night.
The game consists of three rounds. Here is a brief explanation of each round.
Round #1: Three-Letter Words
Two cards with letters on them are dealt face up in the middle of the table that all players can use. Each player is dealt five cards. Players write down as many many 3-letter words that they can form on their score pad. A player can choose to place one of their cards in the middle for everyone to share and draw a card to replace it.
Players share their words and any duplicates are scratched out. For each remaining 3-letter word on the player's score pad, they receive 2 points.
Round #2: Four-Letter Words
Two cards with letters on them are dealt face up in the middle of the table. Each player is dealt five cards face down. Before they look at the face down cards, each player makes a bet on how many 4-letter words they think they are going to be able to make (only knowing the two letters that each player shared).
Once the bets are made, players turn over their cards and begin to write down as many 4-letter words they can create using their 5 letters and the 2 in the middle of the table.
If a player did not reach their bet amount, each word they wrote down is worth 1 point. If a player met their goal, they get 2 points for each word. If a player exceeded their goal, they get 2 points for each word up to their bet and then a 1 point for each additional word.
Round #3: Five-Letter Words
Two cards with letters on them are dealt face up in the middle of the table that all players can use. Each player is dealt five cards.
Players can now take one of the cards in the middle and exchange it for a card in their hand. They place that card face up in front of them and cannot take another card from the middle until everyone else has taken one or no one wants the card in the middle.
If there is ever a dispute over who gets the card in the middle, lowest scoring player gets it. If no one wants any of the cards in the middle, an additional card is added.
The first player to form a 5 letter word with their cards gets 5 points. The second player gets 4 points. The third player 3 points. No one else gets any points and the game is over.
The player with the highest number of points wins.
Our hope is to bring a unique and fun word game to your game night or family time. There are not a lot of new or unique card-based word games available on the market today. We love word games as they introduce a very distinct skill into games and challenge people to continue to increase their vocabularies. Words are important. They give shape and meaning to our thoughts and imagination. This is especially true of our youth, whose vocabularies are being reduced to abbreviations and emojis.
